Each passing day I see a thread about a store going belly up. I always think about those jobs evaporating, even though these aren't careers or good jobs they do provide a paycheck. The gap between the haves and have-nots will definitely widen in the near future
From what it’ seems like to me it’s overwhelmingly clothing stores and then stores that sell way too much shyt

Honestly if these places didn’t over extend the shyt out of themselves with hundreds to thousands of stores they probably would be ok

Like Payless for example, they had 2 thousand fukking stores, they were destined to fail

Y'all ever hear of luxury brands closing stores like that? I still see Prada, LV and Gucci stores everywhere. It's these cheap and midrange clothing stores that are shutting down.

If you're in business, you need to be serving the high end clientele.
Those stores also have certain locations too, costs are easier to manage when you have like 10-100 stores vs 500-1000

Yo, this is closing down because it was saddled in debt when it was acquired by a private equity fund...same thing that happened to Toys R Us. Both companies were in viable and sustainable markets but dumb ass trust fund idiots in the investor class saddled it with debt and it sank. They basically had an airplane that was flying well and they overloaded it with so much luggage that it could no longer fly.

I mean I'm sure that had something to do with it, but the main driver is consumer behavior had changed significantly. Charlotte Russe is predominately a store in malls, people don't go there like that anymore. They haven't transitioned majority online so brick and mortar stores become burdensome because they don't get foot traffic, rent/fees, and need to be staffed.

These stores need to adapt to stay viable or they'll face these issues at an even higher rate in the near future. Sucks, but it is what it is.
