You guys realize with the exception of Irving and Wiggins that all the other lottery picks came from Dan Gilbert right?

Grant wanted Jonas. Gilbert wanted Tristan because he kicked his and Derrick Williams ass in one on one scrimmages.

Grant wanted to trade the pick that became Anthony Bennett. Gilbert wanted an offensive toy in the front court.

Grant wanted Pau Gasol...Gilbert wanted Bynum.

Gilbert wanted Jarrett Jack. Grant didnt.

The crux of their problems on court has always had to do with the direction and meddling from up top.

Well instead of me blaming grant I'll blame Gilbert...still horrible selections.

Of course he does. That's why he came back. That's what he couldn't get in Miami.

:snoop: I have a feeling Blatt and maybe even Griffin are as good as gone after this season. Especially with Griffin going on the broadcast during the Dallas game to stick up for Blatt. If lebron doesnt want him here they're both gone.

To be fair, that goes in conjunction to compounding previous errors.

Does Thompson and Drummond make a lot of sense together?

You don't pass on starting quality centers because you have Tristan Thompson breh, especially when you had a hole at the 5, I said that at the time and it's shown to be true.

Thompson and Bennett didn't make sense either, but that was done.

Thompson and Bennett made sense because Bennett was supposed to be offensively ready based on what he showed at UNLV. He had range. They realized that's something that Tristan wasn't going to be able to develop.

You're looking at this from a "this what they should've done perspective" and I'm not arguing on their behalf. I'm explaining what happened and why it happened.

They passed on Jonas because they were afraid he wasn't going to come over from Europe. You remember that Gilbert was hell bent on speeding up the rebuilding process right? He's always operated out of fear and thirstiness to show how smart he is.

If a GM is handcuffed by a meddlesome owner can you really fault him?

To Grant's credit he was excellent in trades. One of the best in the league. He gets a bad wrap and I just think it's unfair. But that's the world and how business works.

Well at that time everyone knew Thompson was a big off the bench. They were probably thinking of having Bennett start. I dont get the logic but that was the WOAT #1 pick. Especially with Nerlens on the board. Like everyone (except Dan Gilbert) knew they wern't probably going to make the playoffs, we could have waited for Nerlens a year.

Edit: and i wanted to make the playoffs last season. I was already sick of the tanking

I know what happened, the problem is that someone like me on a messageboard shouldn't have been able to see what was going to happen with the picks they made.

It's just straight :ld: status to me that people on this board in unison were basically like :scusthov: at their picks and could have constructed a better team from the draft than them. And come on fam, you can't absolve Grant of all this, look at the drafting history of the Atlanta Hawks, he was assistant GM over there and he was the dude that pushed for the Marvin Williams over CP3/Deron. He may have wanted to trade the Bennett pick, but who they eventually took is right up his alley and his MO.

I said Jonas, I said Drummond and I even said Len......constantly passing up on centers is why they are where they are scrambling to find a big man.

You're also looking at it from a strictly basketball perspective (which I get and am not arguing).

You're not taking into consideration the political and business part of it.

Lloyd says the Cavs doctors have evaluated Shumpert and he has at lest 2 more weeks before he can return from the dislocated shoulder.

There have also been reports that JR has a partial tear in his left foot (plantar fascia) but he's been playing on it.

Cavs won't be right health or chemistry wise (hopefully) until after All-Star break. January is going to be very very ugly. I expect them to be under .500 soon.
