This need to happen in DC.

East of the River NE/SE only have 4 grocery stores for 160k people. Ward's 7/8 are major food deserts.

I don’t know. Typically, anything the government touches is inefficient. But, if the purpose of the city getting involved because no other corporation is in the area, I think I could rock with it.

The city buys the property and contract out the operation. The city picks all of the foods they want sold and negotiate the prices the contract can sell the food at. The city can set the wages of each employee as well.

I’d rather throw money at it and have professionals who have drive for profit than make it a city operation where employees will end up unionizing and cause the operation to raise food prices. Then people will end up avoiding the city grocery store all together.
