Why are they framing it as the funds for immigrants are the sole reason for the layoffs? Genuine question because a budget is composed of hundreds of things, especially on that level. This could be partially cut, as well as many other potentially MORE deserving things to make up for it.

Who else gonna get the aliens out thats sucking up resources....Karen Bass?
My point is that it’s always said there is no money to pay educators to make the field more attractive and retain the best, fund special education at the proper levels , lunch programs, college grant funding, student loan forgiveness, but like magic we can use the federal debt to fund ICE with more money than it takes to fund the IDF.

depending on who the democrats put up in 2028, i might be finished with voting

i won't vote for republicans, but i cannot vote for this iteration of the democratic party. it's too fukking embarrassing
What are you doing now, before 2028. If the answer is nothing why would you expect Dems to change?

We’ve been down this road before. Sit & do nothing= “most important election” rhetoric

Now is the time for people to put feet to fire. There’s zero reason Dems & Republicans shouldn’t feel the heat now. Social media is used for everything but making sure them fools creating the laws are doing right by us.

Sidenote; Can we finally get a local resource thread going? Name of each states representative, how to contact. Their agenda & what we’re doing to keep them honest?

Don’t take IG as a news source!

The claim that Chicago has spent over $638 million on illegals is untrue.
None of the reputable news sources or official CPS statements confirm or substantiate this figure. The only mention of this claim appears in this social media post.

The layoffs and numbers are accurate, but they are part of CPS’s annual staffing adjustments, not solely or directly due to the $734 million deficit.

But the illegal immigrants part is unsubstantiated and no credible source supports it.
Interesting what that IG page trynna do

Alright, here we go again. As a person who actually lives here and does not have a vested interest in disinformation, here is a post LITERALLY FROM THE TEACHERS UNION

Because of the legacy of Chicago’s original DOGE, the deliberate underfunding of our district by the state, the decentralization that places key decisions in each individual principal’s office, and past administrations who saw disproportionately Black women workers as expendable and the Black students we serve as undeserving, CPS performs layoffs every year.
Layoffs literally happen every summer.

How do Retention Pools Work? What Happens Next?

Because CPS made layoffs such an annual ritual, our union fought and won contract language that created retention pools to help facilitate the rehiring and placement of laid off staff within the district. In the contract we just ratified, we won for the first time ever layoff pools for Class Size Teacher Assistants. Instead of being laid off at the end of the year and needing to wait to be rehired, Class Size TAs will now be centrally retained from one year to the next, returned to their school if there is a continuing need, or redeployed to other schools with class size needs. And due to the reductions in class size limits across grade levels that we won in our new contract, CPS is projecting a larger number of Class Size TA positions to be open next year.

CPS has also agreed that all impacted Special Education Teachers with ratings higher than unsatisfactory will retain employment at full salary and benefits through either the Reassigned Teacher Pool (a contractual right for tenured teachers) or the Special Education Teacher Retention Pool (created in impact bargaining for laid off Special Education PATs this year).

Additionally, our new contract requires that for SY2025-26 CPS must create 34 new network Technology Coordinator positions, 30 Bilingual TA positions, and 8 network fine arts teacher positions; expand the Sustainable Community Schools model to 16 more schools (taking the total from 20 to 36), resulting in, amongst other things, newly created Restorative Justice Coordinator Positions; create 3 new world language programs and 3 new dual language programs, resulting in newly created Bilingual Teacher, ELPT, and Dual Language Coordinator positions; and implement significant improvements to required staffing ratios for ELPTs and case managers resulting in hundreds of new positions. CPS can guarantee placement in these new positions for impacted members, and to otherwise expand retention pools.
You were laid off before and could get your job back, but it fluctuated with budgets. Again, as someone who actually lives here, it comes up every year and has every year that I have been able to speak and watch news.

This has nothing to do with migrants aka(incorrectly) illegals. They were processed and shipped here. Speaking of:

Nearly two years later, Texas has transported more than 102,000 migrants to New York, Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

But the initiative has also come with a hefty price tag. Records obtained by The Texas Newsroom under the Texas Public Information Act show that as of Jan. 24, the state has spent more than $148 million to bus migrants to predominantly Democratic cities. The price tag grows every day.
So they were shipped here and it's not free nor productive to ship them back out. All migrants have immigration court dates of which they are only getting asylum claims accepted at a 35.8% rate. Most of them have left Chicago and those that remain are selling candy on corners with a 1/3 chance of remaining here long term.

Asylum Grant Rates Decline by a Third

sylum Grant Rates Decline by a Third

Published Nov 19, 2024

Asylum seekers are having less and less success at their individual hearings before an Immigration Judge.[1] The latest case-by-case Court records for October 2024 show asylum grant rates had declined to just 35.8 percent. This is in down sharply from earlier in the current administration when grant rates had climbed to above 50 percent. See Figure 1.
The above comes from federal FOIA reports. Long story short, if Texas wasn't shipping them here, Chicago wouldn't have hosted them for the past 3 years to this degree. The school funding issue comes from "wait and see" funding from the state despite CPS being one of the largest school systems in the country. This has zero to do with migrants.

Unsurprisingly, the source is a man from Atlanta speaking on Chicago and calling people who have been processed in the system and waiting for court dates illegal immigrants.

This is the "Democrats are holding job training for illegals" all over again.

"Many are now questioning the city and state leadership who stood behind illegal immigrants and spent over $630 million supporting them."
Says who? That's bait.

The fact CPS can fall into such a huge deficit while the city itself has 100s of millions to spend on other issues is such a glaring hole in the way that system is structured

CPS structured their budget around 100s of millions in temporary COVID relief and started layoffs back in 2024 because they didn’t gradually phase it out and because the city and state can’t and won’t help fund them it created a crisis.

Trumps cuts didn’t help the issue but this is mainly caused by Chicago and Illinois systems being shytty Chicago and Illinois systems. Very little of CPS funding is federal.

These nikkas just be saying anything lol

The source says abcnews in the ig post, and the blackmillionairs_ ig page is ran by James Hill and he is from Detroit:

The page does not have multiple post attacking Black Democrats. For example here is a post praising the Black Democrat Baltimore Mayor:

Do you have proof that Jame Hill scammed people and James Hill is a grifter?
