Almost every time, most people who grew up poor say ‘I didn’t know any better, I had nothing to compare it against’

So sorry I’m chalking this up to a weak ass generation that wakes up ready to blame everything on ‘mental health’

Children are (should be) shielded from struggle. Ie I had no idea til I was an adult now hurt we were financially. Or what money my folks had to borrow, etc

Being poor as a youth bothered the hell out of me. I had the whole shebang: lots of nights with no hot water, no snacks, always on the free lunch program and having the white, well-off kids laugh at me and shyt within earshot, food banks every Sunday, roaches all in the crib, etc.

What made it worse is that my city was right next to a major army base, so the kids of those soldiers were relatively cozy while I was a fukking serf in comparison.

I'll never forget my first day of summer school following my 11th grade year when this rich, mixed girl whipped out of the parking lot in her dad's Maserati with the top down. I deadass cried, knowing that it'd be years for me to get to that level, if ever.

I held a lot of resentment towards my parents for years.
remember your free lunch code? 1789 here lmao

used to say that shyt under my breath and the lunchlady was cool about it

hurt when i wanted another bag of chocolate milk tho :( had to pay for that

Again, for the brehs and Brehettes coming up from poverty, I truly feel for you and I personally given back by monetary funds as well as building houses in work missions, just don't berate innocent black folks that had it slightly easier than you.

No, it's bitterness directed at the WRONG set of people (black folks) that had slightly more things. Its traumatic, but dissing other blacks that did nothing to contribute harm or poverty is a form or crabs in a barrel behavior.

You can't help where you were born into.. And you can't choose your parents. Do you believe they did the best they could, all things considered?
Oh definitely. We always had clothes to wear, and 95% of the time, we had SOMETHING to eat. I've seen them in tears just to trying make ends meet. I came to my senses around the time I turned 23.

Now, I'm trying to make enough money so that they don't have to worry about that anymore. It's the least I could do for being a little shythead.

Good shyt. Appreciate the struggle of those before you faced, while improving on their mistakes going forward.. Its the only way.

Money truma can be just as bad if not worst than physical trauma and I grew up with plenty of both.

Was homeless several times growing up, been to bed plenty of nights without a real dinner, had to heat the house with the oven, had to see my cousins parents stuff lunchmeat and other groceries into their coats in the winter just to keep from starving. shyt can make you hate money especially when the only people you see getting it had to harm someone to get it.

Damn

Imagine summers getting so hot in the projects that the brick walls would sweat from the trapped humidity inside
folks would have an ac in the master bedroom and one in the living room...so you and your cousins mob up on the living room floor
waiting for yo mtv raps to air

everybody being poor but the one kid got the new Jordan's so he cracks extra jokes
yo lemme ride your bike right quick ...:aicmon: nah bro moms said can't nobody ride my bike
the laws would sweep the hood and have my cousins and uncles knocking at the back door frantically

My mom couldn't afford toys from real you stores as a kid, we would get them from the salvation army until she got a better job — around my teenage years when it was too late.

Today I can afford to buy my younger cousin $50 super soakers just because.

My family are working class but we never struggled like that. :picard:

That’s why I’m tired of adults creating children they can’t afford. It’s selfish to put them through such trauma.

This is exactly where their resentment comes from once they grow up. :francis:

Also, it makes me realize how entitled these crackers at work are. They fold under pressure more quickly.
Although I don’t like to romanticize the struggle, it does make us more resilient in the long term. And thus gives us a mental strength advantage.
