I'm just saying while the act itself is good the intention behind it is not, this is just the communist party crushing any competition to control the masses with their own version of state sanctioned cult, not to free people from all religion. If you're ok with this then are you going to complain if western countries start banning Koran and forcing Muslims to convert to protect "western way of life"?

I also don't like how the communist party try to monopolize what is considered appopriate for China or not. They even try to claim that democracy or even questioning the government is un-Chinese and caused by western influence.

Western countries have tried to do/done all those things

China also did a Quran ban not to long ago. At least they upfront with what they trying to do.

Why y'all were expecting folks who did the one child policy and super training kids for the OLYMPICS to put a high vaule on civil liberties is beyond me.

Communism has always been about the needs of the state/collective over what's good for the individual. This policy is just a continuation of that.

China is very much against religion, primarily because of attempts to proselytize; their main target right now being Islam. From what I hear, they're incentivizing informers by way of financial means to report any and all religious gatherings among Muslims.

The only pious persons they tolerate are Jews, and have for some time now. There are numerous shuls around Shanghai and Beijing that operate entirely undisturbed. Certainly a sizable Jewish community there, and the Chinese treat them very well. Back in the 1930s some several thousand Jews were issued visas in order to escape the khurbn and given refuge in China. Similar situations of refuge were given in various parts of Japan as well. My rov was in China a couple months ago for shabbaton and he said you wouldn't believe the ease of access to simple everyday needs like glatt kosher foods.

One of the drivers when he first landed noticed his yarmulke and asked if he was Jewish. The driver then took his index finger, tapped on his own forehead/temple area a few times, nodded his head, smiled and gave him a thumbs up.
