That's not how things are measured in war. US failed on their objective. Vietnam was unified under one communist regime when it was previously divided into two. There were alot of alies of the 'West' in South Vietnam. Therefore those 58,000 lives lost and billions of dollars spent went to waste.around 58k US deaths....
around 1.1 million north vietnamese deaths
US withdrawl was due to politics not military loss
The distinction does not make sense. Winning military is winning politically since a war ALWAYS has a political goal. You use your military to reach that goal. If you can't, it means you lose.Of course they won. It was a victory won through politics not military.
This distinction needs to be made so the actuality of the situation isn’t overlooked and the specifics of the war aren’t misunderstood.

The problem is the 3rd World War is an atomic one and is solely based on military technology. In an atomic war everyone that has the technology has a chance.China would lose badly in a 3rd world war..
Yes. The war was lost and the lives were lost for nothing. The distinction does not make sense. Winning military is winning politically since a war ALWAYS has a political goal. You use your military to reach that goal. If you can't, it means you lose.
Winning battle =/= winning the war.
The US military won most of its battles in Vietnam, but proved itself unable to win the war. So they won those battles for nothing![]()
Yes the lives went to waste and the country was unified under the communist vietcong. Not arguing that. That's not how things are measured in war. US failed on their objective. Vietnam was unified under one communist regime when it was previously divided into two. There were alot of alies of the 'West' in South Vietnam. Therefore those 58,000 lives lost and billions of dollars spent went to waste.

You lost 26,000 dead and 37,000 wounded in 3 weeks. They managed to capture most of the cities they targeted at the start of the war. And while they suffered more casualties than necessary because outdated tactics and weapons and didn't manage to force Vietnam to withdraw from Cambodia they manage to withdraw in good order while destroying Vietnamese infrastructure.
Even your article said so:
China:
Western estimate:
Vietnam:
- 26,000 killed
- 37,000 wounded
- 260 captured
Western estimate:
When you said got bodied, I though you mean like how France got surrounded and destroyed at Dien Bien Phu or how Italy got routed at Adwa. While China failed in their objective they didn't get defeated and routed in the field.
- 30,000 killed
- 32,000 wounded
- 1,638 captured

As far as I know, South Vietnam is dead and Saigon is now called Ho-Chi Min city, the communists party still rule the entire country and Vietnam is neutral.
Ho Chi Minh never got to try a Big Mac and own an iPhone. He would’ve gave up on communism too just like his people.USA lost the WAR since the communist party still rules SOUTH vietnam.![]()
US Investment in Vietnam
The United States has emerged as a leading force in establishing investments in Vietnam, with more than 52 multinational corporations such as Apple, Boeing, Lockheed, Meta, and Space X taking the lead. These investments are crucial in supporting Vietnam’s ambitious goal of developing its digital economy, creating fresh prospects across several sectors including video streaming and military. Based on a report jointly conducted by Google, Bain, and Temasek, it is projected that Vietnam’s digital economy will attain a value of over $49 billion by the year 2025.
The lifting of the post-war arms embargo in 2016 was another factor in the two countries’ evolving relationship. As a result, the United States exported defense platforms such as Boeing ScanEagle drones, several Coast Guard cutters, and at least 24 patrol boats to Vietnam to support its efforts to uphold stability and peace in the South China Sea.

There is no communism in Vietnam. There is only a one party dictatorship that practices free market capitalism. The U.S. has no problem with dictatorships as long as they follow USA’s rules. The USA got everything it wanted from Vietnam through trade embargo’s and skillful diplomacy.USA lost the WAR since the communist party still rules SOUTH vietnam.
You can still cope tho.![]()

China would lose badly in a 3rd world war..
Why are Americans so eager to see nuclear armageddon?
Can't Ameribrehs just focus on losing in Ukraine?
