Honest question since they don't really go over this in history classes: What has held back some nations in Africa from getting better? (obviously some have done well, of course, I'm just asking for some that haven't)?

Natural resources are priceless, and take millions of years to regenerate. Cheap Chinese infrastructure requires constant maintenance, and where is the money coming from for that? Who is paying for the upkeep of roads, and buildings? And how are they paying for it? I don't know how you can be so naive to not realize that the benefits (longterm) China is going to reap from this "investment" far outweighs this measly 60 billion dollars.

are you really this dense? that's because historically when European/Americanss whom provided foreign aid to and investment in Africa very little of the money actually went where it was meant or to small scale projects which were like putting a bandage of over a bullet wound so had no real impact and the investments usually went to things like hotels chains/luxury housing meant for the 1% and cacs..What China is soing is totally different...the roads, hospitals, retail stores,damns,etc are beneficial and accessible to common Africans and have a much bigger impact than previous Western investment... never in the history of Imperialism did the Imperialist try to modernize the colonized lands in which the colonized are the majority on the scale China is doing in Africaere they can compete with them
if China was really out for self and only looking to use Africans they would try to keep the continent as undeveloped as possible and follow the cac aid blueprint in Africa :as giving poor Africans malaria nets,digging a water well in some impoverished drought stricken village or development aid not building modern hospitals and damns.
