China only had one request. Build infrastructure. Other than that, no strings attached to how you use the money. You can't blame China for African leaders being stupid and corruptible. :francis: Especially not in this case, because PLO Lumumba, also a Kenyan, has been warning everyone for years now about the dangers of misusing Chinese loans.

This is on Kenya (and Zambia). :manny:

African countries need options, particularly when the West isn’t interested in investing in infrastructure. It’s on African politicians to leverage the best deal possible. As always, it’s Africa’s leadership deficit that hurts it the most.

I also don’t think there’s a long-term goal for the Chinese to exercise direct administrative control, as the most hyperbolic claims argue.

Most of the blame is on the Kenyan government for such a shytty ass deal. They are allowing themselves to be taken advantage of. They are falling for obvious debt traps

Once again, a port which is usually an almost indefinite source of income and commerce was put up as collateral for a train system. A fukking train system. Then they saw this and signed on the dotted line for such a deal and couldn't even guarantee they will pay it back.

This is like that scene in the movie where an out of control gambler puts their mortgage in the pot and loses their hand. :why:

Anybody that gives expects a return...even if it's free...

But nah...the yellow man is gonna look out for Africans unlike that devil White man...
How exactly is the Chinese looking out for Africa?
How are they unable to pay the debt with all them minerals?

Thats like Saudi Arabia being in debt. How sway
Because unlike S.A, these African countries are not in control of how their resources are processed;and those that are usually are corrupt, and do what's best for themselves, not the people!

I still blame China because best believe they are strategic and always have an ulterior motive in doing things that are in their best interests, solely.

As any country would be. It's not China's job to write contracts that benefits someone else. This sort of naivete (and incompetence of African leaders) is why Kenya and Zambia are in the mess they are in today.

Not naïveté, the leadership in both countries is corrupt and incredibly short-sighted. If their pockets get lined and they maintain power, they care less about the broader impact to their countries.
