Tocqueville's advice on French revolution captures Chinese leaders' attention

So a guy named Wang Qishan suggested to the Chinese gov't to read The Old Regime and the Revolution. This book provides analysis how France's revolution was starting not because of poverty, corruption, and gov't mistreatment. But because of national prosperity leading to social disparity/inequality. Qishan suggests that China is on the precipice of such an event.

I wonder if America is under a similar situation but on more of an economic revolution than a full out actual war or even great social upheaval. Economic inequality is rising, even conservatives and Republicans (ie. electorate) are noticing that the time-honored policies and rhetoric are not helping. Socialism is on the rise in this country. Well the idea of socialism anyway.

So do you think that China and America could have revolutions around the same time based on social and economic disparities each are facing especially as America is a waning superpower where democracy is (for the moment) buckling and China is a rising superpower where capitalist communism is giving way to more democratic ideas?

America will never have a revolution. Elites have done a great job pitting everyone against each other. They started legalizing weed right after 2008 recession too. They know what they are doing, why do u think they pushed such a strong emasculation agenda for past few decades?

America will likely descend into violence but not a revolution. Way too many divisions for that.

French revolution didn't happen because of economic and social disparities :mjlol:

Well it was a part, but most of it was due to the rising of the bourgeoisie, part of the Tiers-État (lowest caste), a minority of rich merchants who riled up the rest of the population. It wasn't a people vs king romantic shyt but more a battle for power between a decaying structure and rich plotters.

If we're to transpose it to the United States... Well that doesn't work, because ultra capitalism propels those who make good business to the top economically and socially. It wipes any desire of changing the system in those who have the most means to do it, even when they come from the bottom.

See the second episode of Black Mirror for illustration. The ending tells you all you need to know.

I don't know enough about China to talk about it :hubie:
