The skit was funny then and realistically was the most memorable joke of the whole special. It was something all black folks said among each other and it was the joke that kind of propelled him. The problem is white people doing what a lot of them do, fukking up something blacks folks enjoyed and ruining it.

But the joke is a one time joke. Its not something you can watch twice live and get the same effect nor do now cuz people are more conscience. I wouldn't hold the joke against him tho. Chris Rock may not be someone you agree with on everything but I don't think his joke was coming from a place of hate or arrogance because he is someone who has done more conscience work.

I can't rock with someone who'll make disparaging remarks about their race publicly whether it's a joke or not. shyt rubs me the wrong way. What if Chris did this same routine in front of a white audience. Aye it's funny, it's comedy ain't it?

It was funny then and it's still funny now.

Unfortunately with comedy you don't have control over who laughs at your jokes and how they interpret them.

This is pretty much the same reason why Chappelle said he quit his show.
Cacs ruining it with their interpretation of jokes meant for and by black people.

It was hilarious at the time, but even Chris realized how problematic that joke was. It was really supposed to be an inside joke (between Blacks) but even he didn't realize how big that special turned out being.

Most comedian jokes are meant for that show at that time.

Other than Cosby, most comedians don't refer back to their old material or do their "greatest hits."

But a lot do cuz some material is repeatable. Robin Harris Bebe Kids, Mudbone, Eddie Griffin's Mike on Crack routine.

I'd personally pay to see Martin redo his bit on the Fly from his HBO special.
