classic album, but that was a long time ago, short answer.. yes there have been quite a few better albums since then, Outkast rings a bell
Been saying this..sound quality feels like it could have been released yesterday..classic record.

shyt was far from classic
but that's what i'm saying though. it's impossible to compare 2001 to other albums because they had different goals, visions and sounds when it comes to mixing.you'd have to pick an album of the same genre, with more or less the same style and a similar vision.Which albums though homey? And I'm talking about production/mixing wise. None of those artists you mentioned are production centric save for Ye and Dilla. And IMO, Dilla's production is not in the same bracket as Dre. He is in his own lane. Chopped sample based.
i don't think it's "not as important". i think people are just going more "left" with their mixes. you're hearing more of those "lo-fi" type mixes. they want it to sound more rugged to add some character to it.Yeah Quick's mixes were always done well.
A friend of mine mentioned Diana Krall having one of those "Best Mixed Albums of all time". I will have to give it a listen. It seems like engineering/mixing is not as important as it once was. The "good" albums are few and far between.
That and it's A LOT cheaper to do it that way too.i don't think it's "not as important". i think people are just going more "left" with their mixes. you're hearing more of those "lo-fi" type mixes. they want it to sound more rugged to add some character to it.
Exactly homie. I am on a quest to find more albums (in any genre, but hoping to find more hip-hop albums) that was mastered/engineered as well as 2001.The mastering and engineering of the production is![]()
