in the nba its definitely the most unfair in terms of teams having a good shot of winning a title. i dont believe this means the nature of the game itself is the reason why its the hardest to win a title in the nba.

case and point:

1990-2012:
NFL: 13 different teams have won the superbowl

NBA: 9 different teams have won the nba title

MLB: 13 different teams have won the world series

NHL: 14 different teams have won stanley cup.

and you have small market teams winning titles in every league except the NBA.

From the standpoint of being a GM and building a championship team, he's right. Only a few teams will really have a true shot at winning a title.

In other sports, over half the teams in the league have a legit chance of winning.

Olympics and World Cups.

If you're lucky you can go to 3 in your prime. 22, 26, 30. If you're exceptional you might go at 18 & 34.

That's 5 opportunities MAX. in competitions where one off day ruins 4 years of work.

In the NBA if you're the best you can win Championships 3 times no problem. It is harder to fluke an NBA championship though.

The question depends on your vantage point, are you the best? Or an outsider?

On either basis, I would have to say Tennis is the most difficult. There's no team-mates to carry you. No timer to count down. It's one day, one chance. Man vs. Man and you have to defeat him. The skill + nerve factor is highest in tennis. It's difficult to fluke but requires a high degree of nerve from the best to win.

It's definitely not the NBA championship. In soccer, it's a league format so you have to be the best over 34-38 games to win those against everyone. Olympics + World Cups are bigger pressure situations with less chances to win.

San Antonio is a large market?

Champions League>>>>>All

And I'm talking the Champions League...not the European Cup which was easier to win than what we have now.

So no one has mentioned the fact that lakers and celtics have won about half of the championships of the NBA?

making it extremely hard for anyone that isnt a laker or a celtic to win one.

They also had the best players. If you are among the best players in the NBA more than likely you are going to win a title. If you are among the best players in the NFL or MLB your ass aint even guaranteed to win a single playoff game.

After reading through this thread and people's explanations

its pretty obvious basketball is the hardest out of the top four american sports

but hardest championship period is either winning the world cup or the champions league

oh and winning the premiership is harder than any of your comps :youngsabo:

chelsea and manchester city have basically spent nearly £2 billion between themselves to just get to a point where they can regularly challenge for titles and the league championship :manny:

I think its football. There are just so many aspects to a team. You got to find the right QB, RB, OL, WR, ad TE. Then you got to the defense. Oh but dont forget special teams! How many times hav we seen teams lose big games due to an inefficient kicker?

Its just so many different individualized positions in football. Basketball, everybody plays offense and defense, and you really only worried bout 9 dudes really. And injuries are such a huge factor in football.

The one big advantage football has over basketball whe it comes to building team is non-guaranteed contracts. In football, if a player gets hurt or turns to :flabbynsick: status, you can just cut him. In basketball, you're stuck.
