I'm reading all these people's explanations... and I'm still trying to figure out how people are saying anything other than basketball.
In football, if a
#4 seed like the Ravens or the
#6 seed like the Packers can win a title, then that gives almost every playoff team in the NFL at least a fighter's chance to win. Where do you see that in the NBA?
In baseball, a wild card team like the Cardinals got in on the LAST day of the regular season and went on to win the World Series despite being down to their last strike in the WS... TWICE. Where has a seed below
#4 ever forced a game 7 in the NBA Finals to make that happen?
Even in hockey, a
#8 seed just won the Cup last year b/c they were the hottest team and actually had great, though tough, matchups the entire way. Only one
#8 seed has ever made it all the way to the NBA Finals and still didn't win it all. Got washed by the Spurs.
So with all that said, only the top 4 teams in the NBA usually have a chance to win it all. So by looking at it through drafting, signing solid vets, having the right mix of offense/defense, and protecting home court, a NBA team still has to win 16 games to win it all.
Don't look at it as "the Heat are going to be there in the Finals, that's easy." That team was built to win. That isn't easy at all. Same with the Thunder.
Hands down, basketball is the hardest sport to win a championship in.
