How are we determining the best team in football though? The one with the most wins in the RS? Because that's what people are basically saying

People said the giants last year(and have said the ravens this year) werent the best teams. How were they not? Because they didnt win 13-14 games?

The only people saying the Giants and Ravens weren't the best teams are people who value consistency when judging who is the best. The Giants were only in the playoffs because the rest of the teams in their division sucked. The Ravens limped into the playoffs and then got hot. The Ravens have been consistently good though. The Giants just seem to rise up every few years and win a SB and then fade back into mediocrity.

u can't really say that with all the 3 peats the nba has :manny:

plus the same few teams have won the championship for like 20 years, compared to something like the superbowl or the stanley cup where different teams usually win each year and no team is really dominant for that long.

The 3 peat actually lends credence to Chuck's argument. That means only a select few are capable of winning it all.

Basketball and soccer (league titles) are the toughest sports to win championships in.

Hell yeah I 100% agree. In a 5 game series it would be easier for lower seeded teams to pull of upsets but in 7 games its completely different.

Most teams lack firepower down the stretch its tough in bball you have to execute 70-90% to beat top teams like Miami, OKC and thats in a 7 game series that's tough.

You do realize that having the same few teams win actually lends itself to the concept that it's harder to get over the hump in basketball right? You have to be the best of the best to win it all. No barely over .500 champs in the NBA.

Chuck is wrong. Hockey is the hardest sport to win a championship in. I wouldn't expect Chuck to know this but it's true. It's the ultimate team sport. (along with soccer)

Basketball has the hardest road to a title. You have to win 16 games to win a championship.

You're wrong bro.

In hockey you have to play just as many games in the playoffs to win a Stanley Cup and the sport cannot be driven by individual play, like basketball. If you don't have goaltending and defense, you simply won't win. Also factoring in how much more physically demanding hockey is every game, especially in the playoffs. This is really not even a close debate. I just know a lot of guys on the board don't watch hockey so they don't know but it's really not close.

Team with the hot goalie wins in hockey. I see 8 seeds winning playoff rounds all the time in hockey. Rarely does the best team win.

And that's the beauty of the sport. Every team in the playoffs has a legit shot to win. That's not the case in the NBA. And goaltending is the reason that a lot of teams win in the playoffs but that's not always the case. The Blackhawks had decent goaltending but a GREAT all around hockey team when they won a few years ago. There's tons of other cases of this too.

1993-suns had the best record in the league. lose all 3 home games in the finals.

1994-same team. blew a 2-0 lead the houston.

1995-blew a 3-1 lead to the rockets.

i find this to be a copout.

This issue isn't beauty it's degree of difficulty when it comes to winning a title. How is it harder to win a title in Hockey when, as you said, EVERY team in the playoffs has a legit shot to win it all?

Being the best regular season team doesn't make you the best team. See Falcons, Bulls with Rose, and Cavs with Bron.

So it's more difficult to win a game where ONE point can get you a victory as opposed to a a game where any player on the court is capable of scoring upwards of 20 points?

Ok...
