Chuck D urges rappers to stop using N-Word

Actually the "fags" thing has been going on for quite a while.
Seen it myself several times, actually saw it at a party
this past weekend.
On topic :
I'm with it, I rarely use the word and as a rapper myself
I don't put it in my own music.
However I'm not against people using it in their artwork

if this was simply about art i would be 100 percent for the use of nikka in music, but its not art its a minstreal show, the main reason for the overuse of nikka and profanity in rap music and other buffonery is that people finding it entertaining, just like blackface was entertaining

"nikka" is art only in the same sense that blackface was an art, point being blackface and minstrel shows were art, it took skill to do it, the people that did it were very talented people, it doesnt follow that black people should be promoting, defending something just because its "art"

the main reason why black people should stop saying nikka, especially in rap music, is because it sounds stupid

I disagree with that, I've heard reasonable and intelligent rappers use the word without
resorting to a full on vaudeville era performance. An artist using the word N**** or lacing their songs
with profanity doesn't mean the artist is inherently participating in "buffoonery",both can and do have a place in music of all kinds.

What exactly are you disagreeing with, I said that if it's in the name art then it's fine, but if it's based on putting on a minstrel show that makes black people look stupid then I'm against it

In saying overall rap music is a minstrel show, I'm not saying that every single rapper and every single rap song that uses ****** or profanity is a minstrel show, what I am saying is that the majority of rap is a minstrel show and rappers and now rnb artists look stupid using it

A couple of exceptions here and there don't change anything I'm saying, if it's strictly for artistic reasons anything is permissible IMO, if you are saying nikka and using profanity to make a point then I think it's ok but a particular device that is used over and over again, like blackface, is not art, even though it's an artist doing it

Don't have that much of a problem with rappers saying the n-word(even though sometimes I get uncomfortable/annoyed when a rapper od's with the word), but I can't deny that one of the reasons why rap has appealed to non blacks is because of that word(thinking they can use hip hop to say it)

is somehow on the same level as endorsing the dehumanizing nature of minstrel shows.
Which is why I made sure to mention that are many rappers whose OVERALL CONTENT is contrary
to what you stated, the quote in question below :

yeah we definitely disagree, OVERALLL (meaning in general) rap music has turned into a minstrel show

if an artist wants to use nikka, profanity or even blackface to make a point, i dont see anything wrong it, there is something wrong when the entertainment IS the use of the word nikka, profanity or black face or negative caricatures of black people

actually there are just a handful of exceptions, everybody knows that, only delusional people such as yourself hold on to lies, everybody knows rap has turned into garbage even the people involved in it, if it wasnt for the money 90 percent of people would abandon rap and do whatever else is popular, very few people do it for arts sake

and this whole notion that you have some knowledge about rap music that i dont or that there is some good rap music hiding in the booth is just stupid, stop it please

i'm with chuck d saying we need to stop using the n-word... i don't use the word myself either... however, it's a losing battle thinking blacks are going to give up that word... we enjoy belittling ourselves, especially if there's an audience to cheer us on....

Why do ppl have a problem with "nikka" which is a totally different word from the "er" at the end.
If Webster Dictionary can say "there" and "their" which are closer are different, why can't ppl accept that they are different.
