Why do ppl have a problem with "nikka" which is a totally different word from the "er" at the end.
If Webster Dictionary can say "there" and "their" which are closer are different, why can't ppl accept that they are different.

Ive yet to meet a person who can explain to me why they, I or any other black person would want to be referred as "nikka" in the first place...like you cant just call me by my name :beli:

I'm going to start using the term "negus" which is an old Egyptian term for "king".

Let's not decide to stop using words amongst each other because they make white folk uncomfortable. Especially when it was white people that indoctrinated Black's with the mindset that resulted in Black's looking at themselves with such disdain to begin with.

:mjlol: .........................umm ...... you realize that the whole debate over "my nigg-er" and "my nigg-a" is basically about a vowel (which is odd in itself) ........ and you imagine that saying "my negus" will not sound like "my nigg-as" ..... especially with peoples' accents ... :laff: .

I respect the attempt ... but :patrice: ...

How can you expect other races not to use it when they hear it so casually in music, movies, and just the black media in general.

or to treat it with some reverence when you publicly don't:yeshrug:

Same way as you respect any other slang. I dont know or understand Russian slang, and its not for me to use. If I went to Russia trying to repeat some shyt just cause i heard them say it and I thought it was cool, I'd probably get bussed upside the head and not one Russian would be asking. "How do you expect others to respect the words, when we say them everyday"

Every word we use, it has a capacity
And if you don't understand the words you're using
And understand the capacity of it
You are using words that is creating a destiny for you
That you don't even know, or even conscious of

Do you realize how popular hip-hop is? Not to mention how easily the younger generation is influenced by music and media. I'm sure many races who aren't black call their homeboys "my nikka" and etc. This isn't going to stop or get any better. It will only get worst. I know many black folks get upset and think of it as racism but it's far from it.

Doesn't matter how popular it is. It's our music and our slang. We shouldn't let the feelings of others dictate what we say or how we say it. And just because "it won't stop" doesn't make it any less ignorant for them to use words they don't understand.

I agree with you that use of the word doesn't indicate outright racism. But it does indicate ignorance and disrespect for us past and present.

For example. I say nikka all day everyday, but I have enough understanding and respect for the word and its legacy that I won't just go out in public saying it and I definitely won't say it around elder black folks who may be sensitive to it. That's because I understand it, it is a part of me and my parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, my kids. No one should be running around repeating things just cause they heard it on the radio or TV.

The quote i posted sums it up perfectly.
