Put clauses in contracts to stop rappers from saying derogatory things about their community? Might as well end rap altogether...not to mention that is a gross violation of freedom of speech it's crazy...I get what chuck is getting at but he's buggin u can't enforce ppl by contract to rap a certain way...also the gay/Jew argument doesn't make sense as gays and Jews don't use slurs towards fellow gays/Jews as a term of endearment...if it was a white rock concert n the n word was being hurled around best believe it would be a huge deal ... At this point the N word for better or worse is just a part of American (particularly hip hop) vernacular....not saying that's a good thing but it's reality and unfortunately it's not going anywhere....

it's a bit broad
we are talking about one word and its iterations, this is not some slippery slope

I never understood the dislike of the usage of the word nikka.

You would never hear slave masters back in the day or racists whites calling blacks nikkas. They prefer to use the er term which has a different context and arguably a different meaning entirely.

Yes he did, lol, especially in the Muse Sick is Our Message album.

Also NWA and Public weren't that far apart, initially. It wasn't until Jerry Heller got to them and they turned into cartoon gangstas and that was 91-92.

I respect Chuck D's position. What's so great about calling one another 'n*gger/n*gga' (If white/others aren't allowed to say it then there's no difference imo)?

I had a wake up moment when I tried to put my ethiopian boy onto YG. The first song, BPT starts with

niggga, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka, nikka,

"nikka im from BPT!"

I rarely used the word irl but I vowed never again. I still say it on here though,

The problem with statement's like chuck is im sick of people playing dumb like its black people who decide what music is put out, its not people at all. its corporations.

But nowadays it's pretty much means bro or dude to the 90s babies white or black,
Teens aren't offended by it,I'm rappers don't get
Mad when they see white people at their shows singing along either,I never understood why Hispanic people get a pass for saying it tho,I've been to Puerto aRico, and they definitely treat black Ricans different there

the word should die period... no one should be using it.. . it's stupid that people think they can take the sting out of word by pretending it means something else... it's like trying to take the sting out of getting an open hand slap by acting like it wasn't an open hand slap.... that said, i can't be mad at you if other ignorant blacks tell you that word is okay.. some blacks have ptsd...they don't want to leave out the cage they have been in their whole lives... seriously, there are people locked up in jail that DON'T want to get.. they'd rather stay in jail.... likewise, there are those who are oppressed and would rather stay oppressed... as for me, i'm black and i don't use the word....

me and one of my housemates recently were wondering about this. As white Europeans we can't say the n-word, but we still like hiphop, so would it be okay to rap a long to verses and then saying it? Would it be okay to recite lyrics if you just heard a dope line that contains it?

Hiphop made the word well-known across the world but it's confusing as hell, when I see dudes like Vinnie Paz and Celph Titled, who use the word quite often in their lyrics, they seem white to me. Educate me

i wouldn't mind, it feels weird playing hip hop in the gym when an eldery african or some1 i don't know is working out. me personally i don't use it in rl, i am white and what i read on here and the south park episode plus a situation about 11 years ago made me understand why it's not for me to use

on the other hand what will birdman do then
