I wouldn’t say that it’s just an evolution of the accent and lingo. NY accent is alive and well we’re distinguishable everywhere we go.

You are 100% right. Maybe back in the day it was different, but now most differences in NYC accents are largely based on race and age.

But on the real NYC and Philly are 1 hour and 30 minutes apart and the accents and word usage are different.

Philly is closer to my house than the The Hamptons.

Boston (CAC) accent is the WOAT. They sound like Australians

Black people from Camden/Atlantic City do not sound the same as black dudes from Newark/Jersey City.

In my opinion Philly is closer to NYC but has a much different speech.

I’ve met some Boston black people before and other than the Boston speech where they pronounce “bar like bah”. It didn’t feel way too different.

Haven’t been to the Bean myself in years tho.

Nor is Philly and Bmore necessarily that close.

Philly is only an hour and half from my house. That’s pretty close to me.

I can drive there and have a fully active day and drive back to NYC with no issues.

During rush hour driving to The Bronx from Brooklyn can literally take the same amount of time.

You right, accent is MUCH more prominent in the generational white people, less so in black people and 1st generation cape verdians.

Rhode Island has some of the boston accent (and lingo) but definitely more neutral, maybe somewhere between the tri-state and boston accent.

We sound similar but Dallas sometimes sound like Shreveport or Memphis.
