:leostare: You sure about that? I find that the only differences in the area are along racial lines.

You are 100% right. Maybe back in the day it was different, but now most differences in NYC accents are largely based on race and age.

White Brooklynites don't sound like 6ix9ine

1000% as a lifelong NYC/L.I resident I can say that I'm sure.

Edit: maybe for the folks 28 and up I'd say so.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Philly and New York
Boston and New York
Philly and Baltimore
North Jersey & South Jersey (for Cacs)

Boston (CAC) accent is the WOAT. They sound like Australians

All the atlantic coast cities have their own accents but they’re slowly being phased out. The younger generations arent growning up sounding like James Cagney or Funkmaster Flex

Black people from Camden/Atlantic City do not sound the same as black dudes from Newark/Jersey City.

Boston and NYC, shyt is remarkable when I first got up here was dumbfounded :mindblown:

In my opinion Philly is closer to NYC but has a much different speech.

I’ve met some Boston black people before and other than the Boston speech where they pronounce “bar like bah”. It didn’t feel way too different.

Haven’t been to the Bean myself in years tho.

How is Boston’s accent compared to Rhode Island?

Philly and NY :hula:

That proximity isn't that close...
Nor is Philly and Bmore necessarily that close.

DC and Bmore...ok

Philly is only an hour and half from my house. That’s pretty close to me.

I can drive there and have a fully active day and drive back to NYC with no issues.

During rush hour driving to The Bronx from Brooklyn can literally take the same amount of time.

The racial differences in NYC accents are crazy.

I think Baltimore is like that too. Well, everywhere in the country I guess.

You right, accent is MUCH more prominent in the generational white people, less so in black people and 1st generation cape verdians.

Rhode Island has some of the boston accent (and lingo) but definitely more neutral, maybe somewhere between the tri-state and boston accent.

When I went to Boston, I thought the white people sounded similar to those of New York except for the "cah" thing, which is probably dying our anyway
