you may not like it, but you can't use that to discriminate against giving him a yes vote. I don't fukk with De La Soul's music AT ALL. when the thread comes around, what would ppl think of me if I said, "nah trash music, 0 classics"?
Why would you care about what ppl think? Why can't you just be honest and fukk what ppl take from that?

because for me to deny 3 Ft High & Rising as a classic would be ridiculous. As is anyone saying Illmatic/Paid in Full aren't classics. They might not like them, but they can't deny them either.

I feel like MMLP is his classic. SSLP has too many low points, and TES starts to get narcissistic in its repetition of topics.

tbh man I have encountered those people who were fans...I think nowadays it's a cool thing to say he sucks or whatever so nobody pulls out their "real hip-hop card". Let's not deny that talent-wise, he's rapping circles around many of your favourite artists, and even me as a non-fan will admit that.

regarding the music subject matter etc., sure you may not like it, but you can't use that to discriminate against giving him a yes vote. I don't fukk with De La Soul's music AT ALL. when the thread comes around, what would ppl think of me if I said, "nah trash music, 0 classics"?

but as you said, he's polarising. It helps him in a commercial sense and for the average fair-weather hip hop fan. But in real hip hop circles, it can be a detriment, and often undeserved.
I mean I understand that he is talented, but for the sake of not bringing subject matter into the discussion, I've never been a huge fan of the production on his albums either, some questionable/corny hooks, etc. Obviously, Em isn't an artist that I listen to "for beats" though, and like Nas, I'm sure I ignore his misstepps on the production side and focus on his lyrics. As for other artists that I may not be a fan of or albums that other people love that I don't, I can only vote with my gut. If we are creating a consensus coli list, I would want my vote to reflect my true opinions of the album and not simply voting yes or no for an album just because everyone else will do that even if "I'm basically wasting a vote" by saying, for instnace, that Illmatic isn't a classic when 99.9% of others think that it is.

the thing with rappers/groups that have classics is the have joints that you can bump in social settings..

either in the whip,barbershop,etc...

From KRS-1 to Eric B/Rakim to Mobb Deep to Nas etc

Em's music just dosent have that appeal at all..Your getting the:dwillhuh::why::snoop::camby:reactions off GP..

He might be the best example of high class fast food rap..

Its here today and gone tomorrow..

As "technical"as he is, his music has no real longevity...

I tend to judge albums not just on play-ability but impact

In that aspect his first proper studio album was dope (SSLP) and his best work and I'll give MMLP its due for impact too. The rest are pretty solid but a couple of glaring bad ones.

Also out of all the top 10 GOATs, if you take their worst album, his is probably the worst out of them all with Encore. He actively didnt try on that album and I think we all know it and so did he, even if he was battling drugs at the time.

but you realise the question posed is different to a yes/no in terms of LIKING an album. Sure I think that works to an extent with some debatable 'classics', you'll be more swayed by opinion.

but when it comes to an illmatic or something, you're pretty much gonna click yes without 2nd thought, whether you like it or not.

This all comes back to this confused mess that is the definition of a classic that we've discussed before.

All classic.

People that don't think he has any classics have never left their block before. Or just hate white people.

honestly man, I respect your opinion and agree to an extent. I don't think that bothers me in rating something a classic or not, but that's a nice observation by you and you can use that how you will.

I hope there are more naysayers like you and not the type that just attack him due to race or trolling, which is to be expected on this site as you well know. All I ask is for honesty and validity in expression of opinions. Back it up.

yeah tbh I think after a while we agreed there was no real definition to go by and the poll results would reflect what is classic or not. I think voting for the most part has been very honest, I just thought when popular/polarising artists come around e.g. Pac/Em, the votes may be biased one way or another and I was hoping to avoid that.
