Even though I've never been a huge fan of Big I gotta give the nod to both of them (I fukk with LAD a lot more)

Digable Planets had some nice joints but I don't know about classic, there's some songs that really weak, but the good songs were really good.

Black on Both Sides gets a yes without a doubt

Voted yes for RTD, LAD, and BOBS

Digable Planets :scusthov:

Five favorite Big songs:
Gimme the Loot
Unbelievable
Warning
One More Chance remix
Machine Gun Funk

Big was a complete MC. Still can't believe there was actually a thread saying Pun was better. You could see the direction Puff was starting to have him go in tho.

I'm disappointed in Mos Def. After his first album I thought he was on the verge of being a superstar. He was acting and everything. But than he got even weirder than he already was

only Ready To Die.

BOBS was a very good album. Not classic tho, even though I almost gave it classic off "Ms Fat Booty" alone.

"Ass so fat that you can see it from the front" was the line of 99

I'm disappointed in Mos Def. After his first album I thought he was on the verge of being a superstar. He was acting and everything. But than he got even weirder than he already was

There's an alternative universe where Mos Def didn't fall off and he saves hip hop from 2000 forward, leading into a glorious 2016.

Mos Def was the complete package for the 'thinking brotha' rapper. Said smart shyt, looked good, ladies loved him, beats were hard, high charisma that appealed to underground and a bit of mainstream, and you couldn't front on dude's skills. Him falling off almost singlehandedly killed the entire conscious rap movement.

Always liked Blowout Comb better than Reachin' :yeshrug: The jazz was always a staple with them, but overall I enjoyed the social commentary and liked how even through the grittiness, it was still an album I could chillax to. Just felt darker and I dug that. May not be considered a classic to the majority, but that album will always be special to me.

The goosebumps I got when I first heard Black Ego :wow:

Ok so some of y'all will be familiar with a project I'm deciding to run. I made this thread: The Official 'Classic Album' Discussion Thread, trying to reach a conclusion as to what defines a classic album. After much discussion, I am running with this definition personally, so take it as you will when you consider your classic albums. But this definition in particular was most agreed upon.

Classic: 1. An album considered by consensus of the core hip hop community to be of the highest quality (doesn't have to be perfect or flawless, just an album that the consensus deems the shyt).
2. Assuming that condition 1 is met, is this an album that has stood the test of time amongst the core hip hop community? Is that an album still held in high regard, still referenced at least ten years after its release? By a consensus of the hip hop community?

Props to @mobbinfms for the definition and also for his help generally in helping me with ideas to create these threads.

So I'll be going through one artist per day, and I will list out all their discography or close to all of it until the year 2005, as we decided that an album needs at least 10 years of existence before it can be called a classic or not.

-----------------------------

To help bring even more attention to these threads, I'm gonna create a hashtag (again props to mobbinfms for the idea) and I urge you guys to click on the tag and click on the option to watch the tag.

Here it is: #coliclassics

----------------

Today we got a bunch of artists to take advantage of their limited discographies pre-2005: Biggie Smalls, Digable Planets and Mos Def.

My only issue with this series is,....
Why have you never wrote any reviews to illustrate you know how to rate rap albums.
Yet, continue to ask others about releases culturally you should know concretely if they were classics or not.
Plus, culturally where are you from that you are asking these questions.
Plus, why are you asking these questions and for what reason.
Is it to raid a braintrust and use it as a discovery zone.
to blanket the truth with well constructed lies.
What is your agenda with this series.

:dahell:

what the blue fukk are you talking about?

that's all I'm gonna say. You didn't bother to read the OP, which will answer your questions.

I don't have to write shyt, and I don't owe anyone anything. Either respond to the poll or just leave...

I never responded to the poll because you have not said what your agenda is with this.
When for face value you seem to be trying to use this series.
As a discoveryzone for an agenda.

Like why don't you review the records yourself and rate them yourself.
So, culturally we can see how real you are about knowing the culture and its music.

I don't have to vote ...i already wrote reviews and created why artist are deemed credible by skill and culture.
Mostly any artist you guys who get to post on who are fringe sellout artist..have some bit of credibility off my reviews, solely.

I am asking you, why you are not writing reviews yourself.
Then asking for a poll after the review.
