I can't believe my breh @Inspect Her Deck listened to 6 Too Short albums in one sitting :wow:

My vocabulary has diminished all the way to one word: bytch!

lmao it was pretty good tbh, but again I don't think classic-worthy

certainly entertaining enough though.

I've heard the first 7 now.

I said i'd do more? :sas2:
ok then

You didn't say anything about how many you'd do, or that there was a limit to the convo. Period.

All this time you're responding back and forth you could have just answered the question :sas2:

I picked two artists: MC Ren and Spice 1. I await your on-topic response.

I gotta problem with the bolded cause it's a false.
Really what you should say is it didnt resonate with the east in particular. How are you gonna say it didnt resonate with "the masses" and the bay had a problem doing that, when alot of these albums were classics in Cincinnati which is very far from the bay. Also albums like illmatic and OB4CL were slow movers. Illmatic took 7 years to go plat
NAS
Title: ILLMATIC
Certification Date: December 11, 2001
Label: COLUMBIA
Format: ALBUM

while OB4CL
Still is gold according Riaa
Meanwhile Too short whom was just as much a street non pop nikka as them was going plat with ease on most of his early projects.
So how was he not resonating with the masses, yet nikkas act like the two east coast albums i named were. It's bullshyt

I'm from east Oakland and listen to illmatic at least ten times a year, and that's before I even stumbled across this board and found out how revered it is. Same with Goodie Mobb's, Soul Food. Outside of those socially conscious songs he had back in the 80's, I haven't really bumped Short much at all in 15 years. The only reason I even started listening to them again is because I recently got a TV in my car and had an old DVD of bias that I uploaded to it. I'm not even a Hip Hop head liked that either, you'll find me listening to rap over Hip Hop 8/10 times if you're with me. I've already bumped Marveless', Wicced Streets all the way through on two separate occasions this year. Short has had a great run not just out here in the bay and his mark is huge, but nobody is really checking for him or his old albums like that anymore. I think we all see where you're coming from, but for this conversation, the definition of classic is just being used differently, hence why I made sure to say that they're all personal "classics" even though I probably haven't listened to an entire Short album in wells a decade.

nah breh. Got distracted by @bigbadbossup2012 at the time, then he ditched our convo mid-point.

Listen to the tracks I put in the spoiler.

I grew up on Too Short, and all the albums listed are personal classics to me

The intro and mid-song (3:15) skits on this by Mark Curry are :russ: His hype man :deadmanny:

Lot's of his work hasn't aged that well but it's crazy how good his socially conscious songs were and I still bump them to this day :wow:

He speaks on how he got pigeonholed into being just a strip club rapper and how he wants to do release a socially aware album before he retires in this article

I think the Too $hort album that has aged the best and is the most well rounded is probably, Can't Stay Away even though it's probably the least influential one to me and most people personally. However, I think it showed that he could craft a really good album. You also have to take into consideration that in the bay, our criteria for what constitutes a great lyricist is different than most regions. Out here it's not what you say, but how you say it along with substance, over multis and metaphors.

I don't think any post retirement Too Short album has a chance of being a classic. :yeshrug:
All those albums came and went.
i think the key factor is whether the album was still held in high regard a decade or so after release. Everything fades with time. :yeshrug:
Born To Mack was on the Source 100 list.
Life Is was the huge nationwide breakthrough album, it's the one that I constantly see being reissued on vinyl. :yeshrug:
Get In Where You Fit In had the huge singles and the key album cuts. It was the peak of the Dangerous Crew sound and it was consistent from start to finish (minus two tracks that are good but not on the level of the others).

I agree, I'm just saying that as far as aging well, Can't Stay Away is probably the only one that holds up all these years later

Nah, but who are you? I got more Oakland flowing through me than you ever could dream of, and more people can verify me and my life on this board than could do for you in your real one.
You serious nikka, all that cause i asked if you were black?
Wasnt a diss, just didnt sound like a black experience to me.
