Meaning who?Illmatic was critically acclaimed by almost everyone back when it came out so I'm not sure what you mean here.

There was nothing new about Illmatic" lyriciscm" and illmatic sound more cartoony than a ill portryal of ny streets. His lil homies did a much better job on the infamous. I dont listen to illmatic and feel like i'm being walked through NY. I feel like someone's at their folks pad scribbling comic tales. I could care less about that mafioso escobar shyt. I'm specifiacally talking about nas becoming more creative and having a more focused direction in his writing. Which is fact.
On illmatic you could damn near trade the verses on most of the songs and it would still be the same song. I agree that illmatic and ob4cl meant something on the east but neither album ran the game as a whole and it was what biggie and puffy was on that brought the east back to the top and nikkas that followed their pattern are came through them became the east coast dons that took the crown back
I picked those because it's that real. Neither of those albums were running hiphop and the fact that the east coast brainwash machine has created that narrative, show how powerful it is. "two most acclaimed" by who. East coast bias mags and disc jockey's? The general public wasnt on them like that. I clearly remember.you have a valid point about EC bias no doubt but I also feel the reason more classics came out of the region was because it was a bigger market generally, so more shyt was being released as well
but I don't know when you are focusing on consensus classics like OB4CL and Illmatic. You literally picked the two most acclaimed albums ever to make your argument?
at least talk about Muddy Waters or something..

Nonsense. Nas album went plat in 2001,came out in 1994,that's not alot of attention.yeah because Illmatic was told from a 3rd person perspective rather than the Infamous which was 1st person and thus more direct. I also think The Infamous is better anyway.
Biggie was the sealer that brought attention back to the East, but people like Nas and Wu-Tang were beginning to wrestle attention away from the West bit by bit, and by the time Biggie blew up the switch back over was confirmed.
No,Cincinnati Ohio born and raisedso are you from the West Coast?

.They were no threat without biggie.
Wu was getting outshined by a midwest group that was signed to an west coast don by the name of eazy.

Naw i'm saying badboy was the key player. Remove bad boy and the east doesnt come back. You could of removed nas and east still returns, with bad boy at the head and wu in the back. Or removed wu and kept biggie at the head and nas in the back. But remove badboy and them nikkas never return.you saying Biggie single-handedly (and Big Boy) managed to get attention back to the East away from the Death Row machine? Just those guys?
fair enough

Peep the connections
The biggest stars in wu back then were Meth and ODB if you dont know.
Biggest song odb was on was Mariah carey fantasy bad boy remix
Method man's biggest record was with mary j (not a bad boy artist but sean combs prodeje)
What does nas first big records sound like? Bad boy shyt, obvious sample, obvious hook remakes.
What camp was jay heavily involved with before he blew.
He was on mase album 4mil,puff's album 7mil,lil kim's album 2mil,on big's album 11mil and had big on his first album.
Where was dmx? he was in videos performing on songs from mase album and the lox.
Bad boy was the key that changed it all.
If you dont know, puffy was invovled with 40% + of the the songs on black radio in 97-98.
Dont let these mags confuse you.
I named one, and you discounted it. Besides, I need to know 3 or 4 rappers so I get an idea of "someone's numbers vs competition during whatever the said artist's peak was."
You've mentioned 2. If you can finish it off with MC Ren and Spice 1 that's all I need.
@Inspect Her Deck, have you seen @bigbadbossup2012? He went mute yesterday and disappeared. I'm still waiting for him to answer a few questions in another thread:
Lemme know if he comes by. I'd hate to think he's ducking discussion
Be clear, there's albums that NEVER went plat that are classics to me like COMIN OUT HARD.It took 7 years for E-40's album in a major way to go platinum...But that shouldn't be a barometer on impact
You dont have to look. I told you to name an artist. I respnded to two, which was twice what i said i would do. If that's not enough for you to get it,then that's your misfortune@Inspect Her Deck, have you seen @bigbadbossup2012? He went mute yesterday and disappeared.
