Respect the good & understand the bad
said no to everything for now just so I can see the damn poll!

willing to change votes when necessary

can someone pitch to me why 'x' album should be classic? and MORE than a regional classic because I can only ascertain the quality from listening and I feel there are one or two on the fringe and I'm undecided about.

got the last 2 albums remaining to hear.

He doesn't really have any true nationwide classics in the sense of breaking ground and appealing to a huge audience although Cocktails probably came the closest to it. Bay area music has never resonated with the masses and probably never will. It is what it is :yeshrug:

FWIW, I saw him live at a club out in hunters point with messy marv back in the day and he killed it. He stayed for an hour or so afterwards to chop it up with the audience also. Real accessible and down to earth. The asian chick that was on that married to the game album cover was with him too lol

he was pretty consistent up to Getting It

cocktales is the best

besides a few cuts here and there most of the stuff previous to cocktales sounds dated

Too $hort is the type of artist thatv transcends the classic "album". He doesn't have that perfect album but he's been perfect at what he does his whole career. I suppose 'Life is...too short' is his platinum seller classic. I'm a 'Short Dog's In The House' man myself. 'Shorty The Pimp' has cuts too. 'Get in where you fit in' is probably his most quantifiable dope album for review by bum fakkits who never knew from dope.

yeah I guess he's one of those artists that suffer from the whole 'classic' labelling

but no way in my mind can I think of giving him a classic when I could only afford G Rap 1 classic

but he must mean more to his region than most other artists could say for their own regions, and his longevity is ridiculous

I just listened through the first 4 albums

:gladbron:

Very enjoyable I wasn't expecting that, apart from the dated production on the first one.

But I don't think I can hand out a classic just yet.

Gonna listen to the next 3.

The albums are all very solid but I don't think they merit that status

yet you got inspectah deck in your avi. You east coast play haters some ho ass nikkas. But fukk your opinion cause the world already know anyway.
Acting like bum ass nikkas are special and downplaying nikkas outside the east THAT REALLY PUT IT DOWN.
Short made a bigger mark in hiphop than anyone in wu tang, fukk nikka.
Had the streets on smash and sold more records than them nikkas with their so called classics

That's understandable. They're westcoast classics though :sas1:
Naw it's not understandable cause these same nikkas will tout east coast classics as if they're nationwide classics mean while the "west coast classics" they're downplaying had much greater impact on the streets and the charts, fukk them ho ass nikkas

I've said it before, and i'll say it again:

Too $hort is the greatest conscious rapper of all-time. Bar none.
People dont give short credit but the fact is he talked about regular life with the same amount of details as he talked about these bytches. He was cold with it

Also just because I got INS in my avi, doesn't mean I think he has classics lol wtf..

that's some fukked up logic

I'm not from the East either so I don't have bias like that, I'm just calling it as it is.

what Too Short album is on the level of The Chronic, Doggystyle, AmeriKKKa's Most or Death Certificate? Even something like Bizarre Ride II? 93 Til Infinity etc.

I don't need people plagued by their personal connections to a rapper to convince me Too Short of all people has like 5 classics

I gotta problem with the bolded cause it's a false.
Really what you should say is it didnt resonate with the east in particular. How are you gonna say it didnt resonate with "the masses" and the bay had a problem doing that, when alot of these albums were classics in Cincinnati which is very far from the bay. Also albums like illmatic and OB4CL were slow movers. Illmatic took 7 years to go plat
NAS
Title: ILLMATIC
Certification Date: December 11, 2001
Label: COLUMBIA
Format: ALBUM

while OB4CL
Still is gold according Riaa
Meanwhile Too short whom was just as much a street non pop nikka as them was going plat with ease on most of his early projects.
So how was he not resonating with the masses, yet nikkas act like the two east coast albums i named were. It's bullshyt

there's a reason I'm JUST finding out and it's because he isn't nearly as relevant anymore as some other rappers of the time period.

Also by your logic of sales and what not, every Jay album gotta be a classic.

My first barometer PERSONALLY is to go by quality before I even assess the other factors. I don't think ONE of his albums so far (got 1 more to listen to) has the quality necessary to be on the 'classic' level.

Especially since we're going the revisionist route and denying albums like Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik of classic status or MMLP or whatever else.

Personal connections? I dont know too short.
My problem is that albums like ob4cl,illmatic,,supreme clientele arent even remotely on a chronic, death certificate or doggystyle level but get pumped up like they are due to east coast bias from this board and other places like bias east coast mags and disc jockeys.
Meanwhile albums that might that are closer to that doggystyle level from other genre's wont get the same props.
Like too short or even spice 1's early work

Naw,you're just now finding out, because whatever media you refer to is bias and successfully kept you ignorant while bigging up nikkas whom arent anymore relevant then too short but beloved by whatever bias media is influencing you.
