.....surely you jest? All of these games are from established franchises and/or established developers or backed by corporate money (in the case of Minecraft). The gaming industry is becoming the pharmaceutical or banking industries where they're dominated by giants. The little guy doesn't have a chance. We're going to keep getting the same games over and over. These guys are too afraid to take risks and rarely make new IPs.

horizon and for honor are new ip's this year
and if you are a little guy don't think you can compete with the big dogs and win. do what you do and do that well
and what type of company would put all their chips on a AAA game that would mean their ruin if it failed? Order 1886 flopped but Santa Monica is still here working on God of War

Center self, inner self
the amount of indie and AA titles have increased though, so it's not unsustainable.....you just better put out a good product if you do make a AAA game.

Don't get it twisted, I don't think he's wrong. But to say that AAA isn't sustainable isn't entirely true either. You just can't "miss"

This.

I'd say Hollywood and blockbusters is a far more apt comparison...

If you believe that then you missed out on the best games overall. Didn't Driveclub sell more than Mario?

Driveclub and Killzone did good at the box office :francis:

Shut your broke ass up Brokey :birdman:

What you ended with is a joke imo. People are corrupt these days, they lying about budgets. When Scorpio drops, all my games become 4k. They can even add upgrades, improvements. They trying to rape you by selling you a portion of a game for $60 then force you to pay up to $50 for a season pass if you want to unlock the rest of the data that is already on the disc you bought :mindblown:

We've also gone digital so they save on not having to create cartridges or CD, bluray etc. More gamers than ever, more sales than ever. 2k look like the same game since dreamcast, the math sounds Republican to me :manny:
These $50 season passes are the only way game publishers make money on their AAA titles anymore. You know big league titles like Fallout 4 and Batman: Arkham Knight are running development budgets anywhere between $100-150 million right? Compared to $50-80 million 10 years ago. That's BEFORE marketing. These are budgets we see in superhero movies and shyt. Game prices haven't changed, and the window to actually make a worthwhile profit on a game is front heavy and fizzles out after like 4-5 months. Season passes are just a part of making a profit now. And it disgusts me to even begin talking about how LONG these dev cycles are now.

Actually, come to think of it, you didn't even buy Fallout 4 or Arkham Knight... :russ:

AAA games are in a great space Cliff can eat a dikk. For starters they are in media that is almost impossible to bootleg. So make a great game that appeal to the masses and promote it right it's off to the races. It's like us on the Coli we know when a game is gonna bomb. We kno if a game ain't marketed right or have any mindshare online. So if we know this these damn Devs & Marketing are not doing their jobs right.

AAA, AA's & indies gonna be in a even better space when they can get digital cheaper than physical.

Really, and I hate to say it, games should cost $80. They've remained $60 for so long, despite inflation. Of course they are losing money. Only a few major companies can pull off 100+ mill games.

And I gotta say this, @Prodigal Syndicate has been saying this for years. He saw this a mile away; way before anybody else

Delusional.
How?

All I see is succes after success. The Hit to flop ratio is just as good as it ever was.

AAA gaming is fine. These stupid companies just gotta used their brains with their decision making. Like for instance don't release TR the same week as Fallout 4. Don't release TF2 sandwiched in between BF & COD. Don't release a featureless SFV capcom. Sony don't release The Order without more action sequences etc...

We are usually on this forum spot on about failures at a pretty good rate. Hell we call it before games are even released. So if we know they should know it.
