GTA V was the most expensive video game ever made, with a production and marketing budget of $265 million,

Of course game makers are secretive but for a big triple a game with cinematic story line and considerable multiplayer 100 million seems like the going rate unless you are in a place with cheaper cost of living like Poland (Witcher 3 cost in the 50 million range) or horizon which was also in the 50 million range

Obviously the best selling games will be the ones that have built a fan base over the years. But that doesn't mean there isn't space for other games to be profitable.

Devs just gotta use their resources efficiently and intelligently, and they will be fine. There's so many platforms and ways buy games nowadays, if you lose money on a game either it was just trash or you mismanaged your resources.

Current top viewed games(and also majority of the most profitable games in the world) on Twitch.TV outside of GTA 5 are all original stand alone games no sequels. DOTA 2 was a mod for Warcraft 3, DOTA 2 while "a sequel" is its first stand alone game actually so not a true sequel. You wont switch to cell phone games, you'll eventually grow up, get tired of spending $60 for literally a new roster update (nba 2k/madden) and find a new genre or non sequel game to enjoy

To be fair though, unless someone is talking about irrefutable facts such as "There is no optical port on the PS4 Slim", discussions that go into opinion territory such as "I don't think ____ has done well this gen" or "Ehh I think this____ isn't that great" isn't really a matter of right/wrong.

I've seen discussions boil down to people shouting over each other about "I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE JUST A FCUKING STAN!" which isn't any more progressive than someone who's ignoring facts. As such, as long as someone is supporting their argument with good, truthful points and rationale then it's not fair to simply dismiss them as being stans/dishonest or w/e.


Example: "Uncharted 4 MP is great!"

I've seen lots of arguments boil down to this which honestly is just stupid as hell and it's just one cynical angry person wanting another to bend at his whim to their hyperbolic statements and anyone who says otherwise is dishonest. I personally don't believe simply critiquing and finding things to pick apart about w/e is some mark of objectivity or talent. Anyone can do that. Half the times people just can't seem to concede that other people don't see things the same way they do. Hell most of the time the person that's so adamant about pointing out the "bad" in things are usually off the mark in regards to certain things. We've all done it to be honest.

If it's a good game, it's a good game. If that happens to be a AAA title? GREAT, if not? That's cool.

Need to split up the AAA title like hitman just did into chapters? Then do that. NO Business model is sound when you have to have an X amount of MILLIONS just to break even.
