I wonder if the meniscus was salvageable and if he could've got the repair instead of just scoping it, which is obvious what happened based on the original recovery timetable. Knowing the way the NFL operates a repair probably wasn't even on the table, nikkas need to think of the longterm.

i said at the time Clowney went down that he needs to take the season off and rehab the right way

he either shortened his career severely, or has limited his explosion. either way it was a terrible decison by the organization

and they put stories out through media that they were growing frustrated with his "absence" earlier in the season

Clowney to have Microfracture surgery.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Clowney had microfracture surgery on his injured knee on Monday, and he’s expected to need nine months to recover.

Per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the September surgerywas performed on Clowney’s cartilage and his lateral meniscus. According to McClain, Texans G.M. Rick Smith indicated the team knew microfracture surgery — which addresses cartilage damage — was potentially on table at some point.

In the short term, Clowney’s availability for the start of the 2015 regular season becomes a primary concern. A nine-month timetable would keep him out until August.

Longer term, the focus turns to how Clowney plays post-surgery. Lions tailback Reggie Bush and Saints wideout Marques Colston are among those who have had the microfracture procedure and managed to have long, productive careers.
