I knew 14 year olds that had kids when I was in the 8th grade .. proof of having sex is not an accomplishment. Moving out the hood, making your own money, hobbies, having integrity and respect is more “manly” than worrying about abandoning manhood

I feel it fam most guys want to leave a legacy and have kids. With the transparency due to social media it’s easier than ever to say why bring a kid in this world.

But keep being the good father you are and show love to your kids we need more of that. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to experience it

Other countries get it cause they value family over individualism. You might see multiple generations living in the same compound. The immigrants that come to the US still have a bunch of kids. They get by cause they have intact extended families and work together.

You don't need expensive day care if grandma or auntie can watch the kids. Having kids are only a burden and expensive when you do it without support on your own.

I see that advantage becoming less and less as future generations become more engrained in American culture. There's a stark difference between 1st gen immigrants and their kids. The 1st gen who arrived in the 70s/80s were almost forced to all live in the same tight-knit communities. Coming to a foreign land without a lot of resources it was basically a necessity to stick together. Now their kids however don't have the same circumstances. They're more likely to move away for a better job or cheaper housing.

100% facts. Other countries get it. If you want people to have more kids you have to put policies in place that lead to a more family friendly environment. Countries like Canada get it. especially in Quebec

- heavily subsidized day care - $250/mo
- monthly allowance from the govt to spend on whatever for the kid
- 1 year maternity leave

etc.

I think it is more than just subsidizing parental benefits. Many European countries, especially nordic ones have lower fertility rates than the US so there is probably more to this story than just money. But money is definitely part of the equation.

No other sentient beings have ever let a rigged monopoly game determine their breeding patterns and existence. From an existential perspective this is just dumb.

This is flawed logic all around

That monopoly game you speak of is the reason so many people had children in the first place. We've had more births in the past 100 years than all of human history. Why is that?

The systems that allowed people to work and buy property are what make people feel comfortable to have children. When that game is rigged people begin to opt out. It's that simple. Before the creation of infrastructure like the middle class the overwhelming majority of people didn't have children

The ebbs and flows of breeding have always been determined by external factors, natural or otherwise

Kids are very expensive, luckily wife and I have good jobs, but to raise kids these days is crazy. Its sad that people losing out on joy of being a parent (it sucks at times as well) due to everything being $$
