I work in media -- and many have created their own. But, publishing works on views and ad dollars -- and sadly it's not happening for most. Our number one focus in Black Media is GOSSIP and Entertainment. Hence, the popularity for the ShadeRoom, etc.
On top of that -- how can one create their own on the level on CNN, Fox without funding. It's not happening. We lack it. Sure, they can get a YouTube channel like Roland but that's it.
The news industry has locked us out -- in addition that has made it extremely hard to create a news channel.
And sadly, Black people will look down on Black owned ish for some reason.
Basically, this is why reparations is needed.

If you talking about me and mine -- meaning Black people -- I deserve to be represented. And that's not begging for shyt. That's let me tell my story or combat to the fake narrative you pushing.
I am a long-time member of NABJ -- but I say tell Roland to back off -- and get us in the news rooms. ADOS - who are apart of their communities -- in the news rooms. It's many of them out there waiting for a chance.

Basically. Roland has been blackballed for a while. And because of what he did -- and manly his ego and his outburst -- they are scared of lawsuits, backlash, etc.
I can understand that.
So if he a big influencer at NABJ -CNN side-eying the org and it's large membership -- cause Roland always wants to be in the room -- and he wants to call the shots.
Love Roland. I know Roland. But, he's outdated and set in his ways -- and needs to move out the way.
I think the org should sue for discrimination.

Represented among whom? The staff of a company that routinely employs apologists for white supremacy who come to its network to gaslight the audience and
for Trump? A company that never sits a single black person on its shows' round tables who speaks truth to power and articulates an intelligent and decidedly pro-black point of view? The same company that ran interference for George Zimmerman and painted Trayvon Martin as a thug? The company who provided Donald Trump free, around-the-clock ad space for the full duration of the 2016 Presidential election? Every black person employed by them is vetted and coached for the purpose of toeing a line and never advocating for any position that threatens the status quo.

Your whole statement is WHY we need to be in those rooms. No matter how many times you preach "do-for self" and start your own shyt. You must be BLIND or DUMB to think we haven't tried. Numerous times. Ask yourself WHY we can't get successful --- or stay there long.
Most of Black media has been bought out. On top of that they are low -paying due to viewership and low ad dollars.
The point is we need to be in those rooms. Being in those rooms opens up opps for funding and making our own. But, we need to be in corporations and rooms to learn how the shyt is run and how to beat them ...or join them in their own game.

The NABJ has no leverage to demand more and when it comes to Roland Martin I hope white media continues to black ball the shyt out of him. And I hope black media continues to make his life a living hell.

They just have to know how to reach their target audience, comes through use new media outlets like Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc...

They both have. Roland had a long-time show on TVOne.
Ratings and ad dollars. Roland doesn't need to be VP of Digital for NABJ -- he's not even trained in Social Media strategies or ran a successful digital platform. He needs to let young blood come in and do his job.
And know that both of the companies you mention are not Black owned. They see "Black media" as many of us see ourselves --- entertainment.
Honestly, a Black VC or celeb could step in and fund something.

That's what I'm saying, that's not even hard to do. Almost any black graduate within the past decade could modernize news information is relayed.

Roland has a position at NABJ - - over the digital media --It's not really paid -- it's a position he is way too old for -- and not experienced in.
Even Gossip and Entertainment websites and blogs have died down. If you notice -- they decline of "hit-pieces" that use to be the rage on forums. Those sites are dead or about to die.
To be successful - you need major backing for advertising and push.
You can study what happen to BuzzFeed to know it's not just Black media. But, imagine -- if they can't do it with MILLIONS of dollars -- how we gonna do it on less than 100K -- many times under 10K.
