The fact that a lot of people who watch AEW programming had already been cooled off towards Cody for damn near a year or more makes this far less of a big deal than a lot of folks are trying to make it out to be.Not sure what superstan accounts you're following, but since he left, there hasn't been an episode of Dynamite or Rampage where you could honestly say "this episode really needed Cody Rhodes". I pointed it out earlier in this thread that other than the Shaq match, he was directionless since dropping the TNT Title to Darby at Full Gear 2020.
It's a shame he didn't want to go full Homelander-style heel because he would have absolutely killed it.
Even the cry for Cody to turn heel wasn't something that people were really genuinely desperate for as much as it was a case of people thinking since he's going to be all over the shows any way at least as a heel he would be less obnoxious to watch than that weird overwrought "I'm a Super Baby Face!" stuff he kept on doing.
