My elders definitely did. And then I thought it was cute and proper so I did it when I was younger. Lol

That was definitely standard for the voicemail, but so many folks just use their cell phones nowadays.

Yes, that is almost exactly how we answer the phone in my house.

"Last name residence, may I have the pleasure of knowing who is calling?"

If they do not speak up immediately, identifying themselves, then we hang up. Since we have ourselves on the no robocalls list, we know those who do not answer immediately got through the ban.

Only family., friends, and business contacts are given my cellphone number. Though, those darn scammers do try on those too, but my greeting on the cell is just a simple "Hello".
