As a species, our purpose is to survive and procreate. However, as a humans, rational, enlightened humans, I believe our purpose on Earth, Mars, or anywhere else, is to improve our collective race as a whole. The genetic and intellectual purpose do not contradict each other. In fact, they very much complement each other. It's why, IMO, science and sci-fi are still fascinating to humans. The realization of progress and what's to come motivates us more than the mere idea of blind faith of the unknown. The reason why religion fails in this day and age is because there's no real progress in the community and spiritual aspects of faith and religion. Group politics and the irrational need to be "right" has made religion or faith in any deity become obsolete. But any purpose or goal outside of our genetic or instinctual compulsions are evolved yet human constructs.

It's a bigger and much permanent threat than nuclear war and it's already on the path of becoming a reality. Once it's eventually created without precautions, it will be essentially a God..it will be self improving every second and with the massive amounts of data we now have via smart phones/devices and the internet. We already have devices and tech that should not exist. Its a 50/50 chance tbh...it will either benefit us and help usher in a golden age (if doesnt become privatized first, the rich will probably ruin it for the rest of the world) or completely go left and they'll completely side step us and view us as ants.
Either way this definitely ain't no movie my g, we are much closer to this reality than ever and the way the world is setup and how evil humans are it will more than likely end badly for us.
