COLI DEBATE: Should "ALL" Prisons Be ABOLISHED? (Are Prisons Really Necessary?)

The prison system needs reform badly. The first thing is to change these drug laws. I don't smoke weed but I definitely think it needs to be legalized. I think drug offenses should have like a three strikes policy. First two times you get rehab and the third time a small prison sentence. If you're caught with a brick or something that obviously selling than you get some big time but something small that you're going to use you should get rehab.

No corporations should be allowed to use prison labor.

More money needs to be used for mental health. A lot of criminals have severe mental health issues.

All felons should have the right to vote. Period.

Prosecute more white collar crime.

Every prisoner for rape should have DNA testing done and lie detector tests performed.

Anybody given a death sentence needs to be executed no later than 2 years after conviction after every dna test has been performed and overwhelming evidence shows the person is indeed guilty.

Prisons are necessary, it's just that, like many other things, America has fukked things up and turned the prison industry into basically what amounts to a fukking slavery institution.
Look at prisons in Norway. shyt is amazing. Not saying that's how it should be across the board but Americans are def doing prison wrong.

Prisons are more of a reflection of society if you noticed. if you want to reform prison, you have to reform society. you basically have to fix society up. education, the economy, the job market, laws, the mentality of this country and etc. rehabilitation really doesn't mean anything if all the skills you're teaching these men and women can't be applied when they get out of prison. they often go back to the same places and around the same people that got them locked up in the first place or in positions that make it unable for them to change.

No. Violent criminals can't and won't follow military orders. Moreover they'll commit war crimes, run away, kill each other, attack random stuff, etc. Suicide Squad only works because the criminals involved are very smart and make logical choices.

Is there nothing wrong with the current prison system? I say, we need to be in favor of having a Scandinavian type of prison model.
