shotguns are non lethal so i would go with that.
you can most def disable someone without killing them and it will cost way less in the long run.
the money you save within the first year will be enough to buy almost two rifles.

i don't know if you have kids or not but shotguns are the best thing to start them off with.
just make sure that they have the leg strength needed for the kick back.
i know a few kids who had their hip, knees or ankles blown out from shot gun kick back.

look into crafting your own silencer for your shotgun.

No..... its generally cheaper, thats why I recommend it. I have a few shottys, and a 30-06 bolt action (hunter large game)

For you first shot gun..... get a mossberg 590 shockwave for personal defense. I have one and its amazing.
thanks breh:salute:

Why not both?

I think anyone who is serious about protecting their family and home should have at least 2 handguns, a rifle and a shotgun.

I'm in the market for a long gun, and I'm definitely getting a rifle first. I'll get a shotgun in a couple of years. Rifles seem to be easier to use and safer, especially if you live with people and have neighbors close by.

Not at all....rifle rounds will travel str8 through the wall and into a neighbor's house or ricochet and go whereever...a shotty range is very limited and buck shot won't penetrate sheet rock out side of 25 yrs (depending on the barrel)

Edit: I saw that artcle...:ehh: I didn' know that

actually a shotgun would be the safer bet imo. With a shotgun you really don't have to worry about shooting through your walls and accidentally hitting your neighbor or something like that.
.....assuming your using the right load.

Depending on how I'm feeling one could catch a slug Or buckshot

I just bought a shotgun, but i knew nothing about guns and wound up getting a 20 gauge by mistake instead of the standard 12 gauge.
But i still want to set this one up as a home defense weapon. Where can i find a 18.5 inch barrel for a 20 gauge shotgun mossberg.?

Shotgun, if someone breaks into your home, you're talking close quarters, a shotgun will get the job done. Plus with the right ammo you can disable someone without killing them.

I’m not a gun person, but if I had one, I’d go for this.
