Philly and Pittsburgh are not rival cities.
Pittsburgh is the midwest while Philly is a grimey east coast city. Philly is more a rival of Baltimore, DC, NYC than Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is rival with Cleveland.
I went to IUP (Indiana University of PA) which is an hour away from Pittsburgh, but like 5 hours from Philly. The school is 1/2 Philly & 1/2 Pittsburgh, and I went to and still go to Pgh all of the time. Some of my closest friends are from and still live there.
Other than IUP, in which there was a mini rivalry amongst freshman, there is NO rivalry between the 2. They do not compare at all. Pgh is small, and hella damn near the country compared to Philly. It would prob be moreso looked at as a county. There's not much there. I don't even know if you can compare Pgh as a sports city, but it's definitely a Steelers town. I liked it, but I don't love it. I really only go to se my friends. But it's not even on the map as far as Philly is concerned.
Our rival is NYC. which is why Jersey is Jersey-NYC & Jersey-Philly.
No doubt fellas, just pointing out that the direction of this series is "in-state" rivalries. So in none if the upcoming threads, am I comparing cities outside the state...
I get it if yall say they aren't rivals though, because that is part of the answer I'm looking for. If they don't compare well, I get it!
The sports fandom, unique local cultures, and educational infrastructures of both seem to parallel each other comparably...
