Philly and Pittsburgh are not rival cities.

Pittsburgh is the midwest while Philly is a grimey east coast city. Philly is more a rival of Baltimore, DC, NYC than Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is rival with Cleveland.

I went to IUP (Indiana University of PA) which is an hour away from Pittsburgh, but like 5 hours from Philly. The school is 1/2 Philly & 1/2 Pittsburgh, and I went to and still go to Pgh all of the time. Some of my closest friends are from and still live there.

Other than IUP, in which there was a mini rivalry amongst freshman, there is NO rivalry between the 2. They do not compare at all. Pgh is small, and hella damn near the country compared to Philly. It would prob be moreso looked at as a county. There's not much there. I don't even know if you can compare Pgh as a sports city, but it's definitely a Steelers town. I liked it, but I don't love it. I really only go to se my friends. But it's not even on the map as far as Philly is concerned.

Our rival is NYC. which is why Jersey is Jersey-NYC & Jersey-Philly.

No doubt fellas, just pointing out that the direction of this series is "in-state" rivalries. So in none if the upcoming threads, am I comparing cities outside the state...

I get it if yall say they aren't rivals though, because that is part of the answer I'm looking for. If they don't compare well, I get it!

The sports fandom, unique local cultures, and educational infrastructures of both seem to parallel each other comparably...

Which do you prefer?

Pittsburgh isn't really the Midwest, once you go beyond Ohio and get into the actual Midwest Pgh don't feel nothing like em...
Culturally, Pitt is Midwest. I guess not geographically.
They call soda “pop” here :skip:

A lot more homogenous than Philly. White people, some black people, hardly any Hispanic, some Indian sprinkled in.
Philly is a lot more diverse in terms of different ethnicities.

Both cities racist as fukk. Philly moreso systematically and segregated. Pittsburgh black poverty is wild. I go to nice places and hardly any other black faces around.

Pitt is a lot more picturesque and green than I expected. I was imagining old factories and shyt. But the skyline is beautiful. Also a research institute and UPMC is a amazing medical institution.

Penn Medicine is the top research institution in the state

From the Capital. :yeshrug:

Both cities are just okay but Philly easily takes the cake just being in proximity to other cities, plus food and culture. Being from 717, been to both often enough when I lived back east.

And honestly, they both way too cold and violent but again it's Philly.

Philly does not compare to NY. They do have a great food scene but that's about it. They're a small scale city like Bmore and DC like you said.

Pittsburgh does not have the culture to compete with any major city.

Philly and NYC are natural rivals just because of the ports. That was my main point. Philly was THE American city until late 1800s.

Philly is really on the Bmore tier than DC and NYC and Boston.

Picked Pittsburgh based on strength of universities and museums and lack of known areas like this

Even though Philly got high crime

I prefer them over racist Pittsburgh area and the outskirts with trump signs still on farmlands
