What car do you have ? Is the shifter loose? If so, the shifter bar has a break. You need to visualize the whole co.partment. just take it apart. The hook and the ring may have broken. Thats very common in japanese cars but easy to repair. The ring costs about 5$ but buy the grease as well.

What whip you got? If it’s a Acura/Honda V6 it’s definitely solenoid or pressure switch

But seriously my charger had the shifter stuck and my mechanic guy had to take the panel off the shifter and fix the inside...

Well if I knew why I wouldn’t be asking

It’s obviously a tranny problem, I just put fluid in it and still won’t move

Gear shifter works, I can hear the gears change when I put it in drive but not reverse

Your transmission is most likely about to go out completely. The best thing you can do is get the fluid dropped and the filter changed and hope for the best.

Reminds me I got a slight transmission leak I Have to get looked at. Please god don’t let it cost an arm and leg or make sure it completely blows since it’s under warranty for that. Either or

people will try and tell you it might be something else, only in an effort to cheer you up for a few seconds by giving a false sense of comfort.....but it's your transmission

if car is otherwise still decent and you plan on keeping it for a few more years just get a decent used transmission from a salvage yard...make sure it has a warranty and get it swapped out at a reputable dealer who will also guarantee their work. this way you're covered on both ends

On a 97 truck assuming the transmission is original. You are better off just junking it. No repair shop wil buy it and even if you fix it something else will go wrong. It was a good run.
