College football 8 team playoffs

There's really a central question that everybody must ask themselves, and really a national poll should be done on this... WHEN not if we go to 8 teams do you want the best 8 teams regardless of conference or do you want the power 5 champs plus then next best 3 so that you include some fairness to each power 5 conference to have a representative/chance at the championship?

So what would the ranking potentially look like?

Power 5 Champs method:
Bama(SEC)
Penn State(B10)
Clemson(ACC)
Washington(PAC 12)
Oklahoma(B12)
Ohio State(wildcard0
Michigan(wildcard)
USC, Wisconsin or Colorado(wildcard)

Best 8 method:
Bama
Ohio State
Clemson
Washington
Michigan
Penn State
Oklahoma
USC, Wisconsin or Colorado

So basically all the same teams would get in the only difference would be ranking and who gets added in that last spot. Assuming it's clear cut for who gets that last spot(and really when is it ever clear cut) then the only difference between the two methods is ranking and who plays who.

the only team that could've taken a game off was Bama. The rest of the conferences came down to the wire even in division races.

The most perplexing thing about college football, IMO, is that its supposed to be somewhat developmental, yet it doesn't reward development or improvement, rather perfection or near perfection with a 2 or 4 team format. An 8 team format could easily put in home games or even a couple of byes as reward for being top ranked. The other 4-6 spots could be motivation to actually have to win your conference. Instead, we seem to get off on eliminating teams in week 1 or 2 even if they are the best team in their conference at the end of the regular season. College football is pretty much the only sport that does that.

no. 4 is enough, Michigan and USC would be in and have no business in it. having 3 loss teams is an insult to the undefeated's and 1 loss teams

then you'd have the #9 team wondering why they aint in, then it goes to 12. too many games, 15 is already too many

Like I said earlier, it's not that Bama would lose, but it would be a more grueling road to a chip. Which in my opinion would be more entertaining and impressive

Also if we used the format suggested in the OP, it'd be possible that 4 of the 7 games played would be rematches.

This happens in other sports, but I don't want to see it in CFB.

If we're going to write off Bama-USC as a damn near Bama lock, to me... no real reason to shove a 3 loss 8 seed in there to begin with.
