It aint mentioned cause its corny. They didnt have anyone really tied to the streets involved with the writing of the film or to tell them how nikkas really got down during them times...and it suffered because of it....I remember my older brother seeing it when it was new and he said the same thing.

It's alright. It had a lot of potential, but they needed someone who really lived that life to be apart of it. In a lot of ways it was ahead of it's time. The original script was a lot better. It took place in Chicago, and was about gangs dealing cough syrup and making an early version of lean. The white director thought it was stupid so he moved it to LA and made it about cocaine.

Yeah. The director was Dennis Hopper. He grew up in California, and was really interested in LA street gangs. And I am sure the producers thought that LA was a "cooler" location than Chicago. Like I said I think it's an alright movie, but the soundtrack and interracial gang really hurts it. The original would of took place in the CHI with and the cops were black/white. I know Mickey Rourke was supposed to play the white cop, but I don't know who would of played the black one. The movie was more about drug dealing with one major street gang that had taken over the city. When they moved it to LA, it become more about what was going on in Los Angeles.
