When I goto Comcast.com to set up the service, it doesn't have an option to not select. I have to select one or the other.
You already have a modem, right? No need. When you have your new modem and router, replace the modem, call to register. that's it.

I just ordered the 6141. I still need to have the actual comcast service though. I'm not a customer yet. I'm moving to a new place in another state in a two weeks.

Oh, okay. You still shouldn't need the kit. Call, tell them you have your own and try not to get stuck with the fee. The kit is their device and instructions IIRC.

Yeah. But I have to choose either the kit ($10) or the tech ($40) when I sign up. I was going through the online service setup. There was only two options and I had to select one.

I have read around that people who got the kit had problems getting connection to their own modems and a service tech ending up coming out anyway...so they got charged twice. That's why I'm thinking about just having the tech come out right at the start.

Comcast themselves used the older version of that modem. No way it doesn't work. It's Comcast certified. If you won't miss the 10, get the kit, but you will end up:
A. Setting their equipment up, taking it out for yours, then returning it and got beat for 10 dollars,
OR
B. Get the kit, set yours up like I said and got beat for 10 dollars.

Not to mention, they may stick you with the equipment rental fee, even if you go right to your modem.

I would not do online, and try to get by the fee, but that's me:manny:

I did online since I can get the performance internet for $29.99 for 12 months. If I call it's $39.99 for 12 months. Regular is $69.99.
