I live in the United States
Buy your own modem/router and stop paying Comcast a renters fee for it

:snoop:

I think he means those 3 in 1 combo's since any router in 2013 would be wifi compatible :manny:
If he is, those 3 in 1's work. They suck overall, but work.
I say they suck cuz they don't work as far OUTSIDE my house as the one's I had before the 3 in 1

I dont' believe they are wireless N, but I could be wrong...

I've been using the same Linksys wrt54g router since '07, never had a problem with Comcast. You shouldn't have a problem with your own router.

What do you recommend breh. I need to do this. Tired of paying those heffers. :snoop:

This is the modem I have. I got it from Staples after some coupons that I came up on off of slickdeals.net

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SB6121-SURFboard-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B004XC6GJ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363238151&sr=8-1&keywords=motorola+surfboard+sb6121]Amazon.com: Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Motorola Retail Packaging: Electronics[/ame]

I have this router...

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005SAKW7S/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]Amazon.com: Asus Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600 SOHO Router, Fast Ethernet, 5 Guest SSID, Parental Access Time Control (RT-N53): Electronics[/ame]

It's been pretty solid for me since I've had it. There were a few times where the signal got bad after I updated it, but I just downgraded and it's been fine. I pull 20mbps over wifi with it all over my house. And I can get a connection all over my yard when I'm cutting the grass.

If you want to put custom firmware on your router it might not be the best option though.

Thinkin bout tradin in this old router for the new joint.

fukk Comcast btw, but we dont have much here in Decatur, Illinois:yeshrug:

I work for comcast fam, I'm a service tech. You are talking about the D3 DORY GATEWAY EMTA (phone, Internet and router) in one. They have been having some firmware issues, and they CONSTANTLY fall of the network. I bought my own router, N300 netgear. I need to get a D3 modem, but in my area where I live, I'm able to still use earlier docsis models.

The WIFI on these devices suck. I had it turned off and used my own router and it would interfere and cut out every 30 minutes. Switched to a regular EMTA and no issues since.

I googled the issue when I had it and it seems to be a pretty common theme.

Yea if the WIFI is activated on the DORY GATEWAY, you CANNOT use your own router, it will cause intermittent connectivity. Just purchase your own router AND modem or however you want to use the services. But a regular D3 EMTA is more reliable than a DORY, I prefer arris and ubee is cool too.

I been tryin to tell these fools. I bought a motorola SB5100 back in 2003 for like $50 new. I still got that joint to this day.

if I rented, it'd be $5 a month for 10 years. that's $600 in renting over the $50 one time cost.
