The young guys are talented, but, will be the downfall of the genre because it'll finally become just pop music no one takes seriously.

Don't believe me; even the NSYNC, Backstreet Boys era died, even the superstar R&B era died and they were selling millions regularly.

...this is not about "the South"

Yeah, ita called POP because once you done, YOU DONE DONE. No legacy acts whatsoever.

Public Enemy is hated by radio DJs, street rappers, and corporate rappers alike. You never hear them in the throwback hour on rap stations.

NWA post Ice Cube turned to a parody. "nikkaz 4 Life" was the modern day blueprint of the "real nikka" nonsense in the black community.

Pac would have went back to prison if he didnt get killed. That rape case would have summoned him in court.

BIG would have left Puffy if he had lived.

Outkast should have dropped one more album back in 2008. They deserve the benefit of having one last full album with the South paying real homage

The LOX influenced rappers that came after them, who couldnt drop a 5 Mic album to save their lives. Album making is needed to have a real legacy.

Last comment is so true, solo or group wise. The closest is maybe Styles and he has a strong 4 mic ceiling.

Earl Sweatshirt is the first rapper we've seen mature and become the best of his generation.

Jay-Z never says anything witty, he only emphasizes his words to make it sound like he saying something.

Not enough people are pushing the art form forward. Rap needs to die for some new creativity can come forward.

Whole Dipset was/is trash to me. When he first started to become a name I used to think nikkas was trolling when they said they liked Cam'ron
The appeal of Cam is the fast talking smooth prettyboy who makes everything look "too easy"... Guys who have been that guy or aspired to be one identified with him... He also had Heatmakers, Just Blaze and the whole Rocafella in house producers at their prime, so the sound was great, and the Philadelphia cats at Rocafella were incredible (Freeway, Beanie Sigel, Young Chris).. So the collabos were insane.

Add the fashion and "Harlem" factor and you got a cat who's more like a cult figure than a rapper.

He's overrated. but he's def not bad. I came here from Okayplayer they love that nikka like he Jesus. But he is dope.

I think if you haven't listened to Common's "Like Water For Chocolate"(2000)
Erykah Badu (Mama's Gun)
Slim Village Fantastic vol 2 instrumentals
D'Angelo Voodoo (1999/2000)
And every Tribe Called Quest album from 96 - 98

You can't comment on what you think about J Dilla, if you have listened to those and don't think he's top 5, go listen to house music, hip hop/soul ain't for you:unimpressed:

You're not qualified to talk about J Dilla

Dre aint everything people hype him as

Plenty of producers that are more original and skilled

Rza, premier, dungeon fam, dj paul, pimp c, and quik especially

Dre far from wack, but quik is just way ahead musically
I agree, BUT he does have the best EAR in hip hop history, everyone you named just releases things and hopes for the best, Dr Dre knows EXACTLY what's gonna work sonically, who to bring in and for what purpose.

If you executive produce and sound engineer Crhonic 92, Doggystyle, Murder Was The Case Sondtrack, Dogg Food, Chronic 2001, Get Rich or Die Trying..

Those albums are 10/10 bona-fide classics, and them cats can't do it without Dr Dre.
Beat making vs a Quincy Jones type producer are very different things
