I just can't mess with it. I bought this ish the day it came out and the CD and booklet still look pristine. I've tried numerous times, including a few months ago, but it hurts my ears. It's too hippie for me. I love 6th Sense, like Song for Assata, Geto Heaven 2, Thelonius is OK. The rest is not for me

I think Com Sense problem is that with his style, voice and flow, he struggles to find beats that compliment him. He's often battling the beat. But he always has bars, even on trash like Electric Circus. With Ye he found a perfect compliment. Hell, his 2 best albums are easily Be & Finding Forever.

can I borrow and LWFC breh?
I've never heard anyone say they liked Can I Borrow a Dollar. I remember one of my classmates dubbin over it lol. I only liked Soul by the Pound, and the first song - Penny for My Thoughts

Common was never really that good....minimally talented brother always just two steps away from corny.....I liked "Breaker 1/9" off his first album tho ...just a lot of pretentious bullshyt and then weirdo pretentious bullshyt after that.

Arguably in the styles era, no one was better for the entire time period but Redman.

The problem with common was that he never wrote the biggest record he made. Or the most potent record lyrically.
So, with that he violated everything he was about.

Before that he was pretty much someone you could scrutinize but still culturally had to respect.
After the whole he definitely is a cultural sellout.
I can't even honor the guy no more and I AT one point till 92-98, was easily his biggest fan on earth, easy.
Yet after you learn the real and then see it play out.
You can't credit him in the same manner anymore.

THIS sums it up for me.

I made a thread years back asking 'why should common be in my top 50?' and people were in here having a fit.

dude is the epitomy of hit-or-miss. and when he hits, his fans & media will overrate the hell out of him. hell, they overrate him when he misses as well.

with that said, I wont say hes been garbage for 15 years, seeing that he abuses his on & off switch. but yea, hes one of the most overrated rappers in history.

Be is in my top 3 fav albums of all time. Finding Forever was great too. Dont care for much other of him, imo he really needs Kanye or Dilla production.

Won't ever forgive him for his "real rappers is hard to find, like a remote" line tho:mjlol:

I was told by a wise old to come from the heart
Though I might've did The Light, I don't run from the dark
The dark knight to spark mics, and start fights
The warrior archetype like Kimbo Slice
It's strength in the beard, am I loved or feared
A beast amongst boys like Paul I'm revered
Vroof, vroof vroof vroof vroof Vroof vroof well
Like Jacob Jewel, I keep clientele
You frail on the mic like you might break a nail
I might smoke a joint but I won't take the L
I knew a fat broad that broke the scale
Still touched down cause I was off Artell
Had dreams of breaking Mike Vick out of jail
Took the underground rail to the NFL
I rebel, NYSL
Here to leave a trail like Nelson Mand-el

:damn:

My words is the sword, my skill is the shield
My life is the style I stay dressed to kill
A legend like Will, Smith with the steel
I could save the world when shyt get for real
Skinny George Foreman, all in your grill
My rhyme style is blind, it's all in the feel
Touch it and watch the blood fall with the steel
The weak raps you wrote you could call that your will
My drive VROOM is how I stay the livest
Your guys got you gassed, my flow is a hybrid
Crashed I survived it, gashes over eyelids
You easy to take out cause you hot garbage
I'm amped like wattage, the truth nikka honest
Any moment opponents drop out like college
Kneel and pay homage to the rap Ziggy Stardust
Stadium hands in the air fists balled up

:damn:

Feet in the dirt, blood on the shirt
Scars over bars, symbols of the work
Tight clothes the armor, center of the drama
Defeat your whole army like this is Sparta

So don't violate or you'll get violated
Some of you model bytches is so overrated
Don't mean to underrate it but damn it I made it
In the water I waded on the corner I painted
Draw blood like we related
MCs get de-decapitated
Syncopated is the style that I fight with, write with
Mr. Excitement, change your face up like a white chick
Then light shyt up like a dread with the herbs
Get sex in the city and head in the burbs
These are the words of a radical
The crowd applaud, I'm bowed, I'm proud
To be the gladiator

I said most potent lyrical record not his most prolific.

He let rhymedfest help on Selma and used bitten rhymes that juice served him with on hungry.

So this exposal has happened little by little.
Whenever common could get principals around to deflect on to, and hide his sellout hands with.
It makes his whole career be put in scrutiny because culturally he waved the banner and was critical.
Yet now doing the same thing he was critical of others for.
or culturally what he knows is a no-no as well.
