I'm rollin at him confirming if Andrew really liked it :russ:

I only know the album for Come Close, which in the context of the album is somewhat out of place. I think I've only listened to it all the way through once. It also probably gets ridiculed because it came after LWFC

Someone more versed provide some context tho. Is it fair to say Electric Circus is in the same family as the shelved Q-Tip, Kamaal the Abstract album (official release in 2009)? It was ahead of its time and those albums walked for The Love Below and its offsprings to run?

-The Love Below dropped a mere 8 months after EC so the paradigm didn't shift that fast. EC was just a bad album. I've tried plenty of times to give it a proper spin, it's just bad. That was the downward trajectory in his career to me.

I think it's a great album IMO.

Crazy how much hate he got for it. Production was immaculate and aside from a few simple verses, he was rapping his ass off on Soul Power and Aquarius

Never understood the hate for this album

Yep I loved it since day one.

Common's garbage album is Universal Mind Control, not EC.

The music just didn't sound good to me. The Abstract and The Love Below both sounded great. It just wasn't hitting sonically to me. I'll give it a relisten now to see if my mind changed, but other times I've tried years before I still couldn't get into it. I'll say this though, it put him in a space that lead to a dope ass concert when he toured that Album. nikkas energy was all the way up when he was performing, and he had dope opening acts like Kane and Kweli with him. Some of the songs did sound better performed live I will admit.

Common tried something different. It didn’t work simple as that.

Artists who are TRULY into the “art” of making music should be allowed one creative “failure” without it ruining their entire career.

Common is legit one of the 5 best MC’s ever to do it from a skills, longevity, and catalogue perspective. I think the fact that he was able to bounce back so strongly with Be and Finding Forever should serve as a testament to his greatness.

And…that’s THAT
