I'm wholly convinced people blow this album out of proportion because of Kanye's meteoric rise and Chappelle's Show popularity happening at the same time when it released.

Album is softer than fresh shyt

I agree with this part, but it is still a good album.

Listening to it now, there was nothing particularly mind blowing about the album. The beats were dope. The lyrics were dope. It was consistent and cohesive. A lot of people felt this was a classic. I'm not one of those people.
This album is more about the Kanye Wave at that time than it was about Common

3.5/5 for me. Very good album. Never thought much more or less than this over the years, desptie the hype. On par with FF but behind Resurrection In terms of Common's discography.

It was about Kanye cause he was on an amazing run and about Common cause it was a major resurgence for him coming off of such a left-field experimental type album like Electric Circus. You were 8 in 2005, and you’re also a white woman, so you can’t fairly speak on this at all.

I loved it, the intro alone is just iconic, the beats are my favorite type of sound from Ye, the only exception is 'Real People' and maybe 'Your World' to me is kinda boring beat. Wish the Food was studio version, it was released later on a random Source compilation I think but kinda takes you out of it despite being a great song.

Album is classic. Period.

But I've been listening to Common since '92, so while I love Be, it's still not my favorite album from him, or his best work, in my opinion. His best sh*t is still Resurrection. There are no skips on that album, at all. Whole thing plays perfectly from the first track to the last. One Day It'll All Make Sense is his second best project. From '94-'97, he couldn't miss with No ID at the helm. Their chemistry at that time was on some Pete Rock and CL type sh*t.

Be is probably his third best album.
