this is one of the greatest album ive ever heard, of any genre. i remember buying this as a kid u couldnt tell me common wasnt the best rapper alive. then reading the credits like, wow, who is the jay dee dude? only to then go down such a glorious rabbit hole.

I remember I went to that Spitkicker tour at Bogarts here in Cincinnati back in 2000. Pharoahe Monch and Talib and Hi-Tek (RE) just performed. Then Common came on and performed that Time Travelin theme set from this album. Still the best small venue performance I have ever seen till this day. I felt bad for De La Soul who had to come on next after him.

When it came out I didn't really like the album. Only 2 songs "The Light" and a "A Film Called Pimp". I'm not sure why. I guess it was over my head at the time. I think I'll revisit it.
