Competing with WWE

All these threads about people jumping shyt to TNA () and Jarrett starting a promotion make me think about what a company would actually need to be a viable pro wrestling alternative.

Is there anything to be done to get that spotlight? Or you guys think that there is no way to compete against WWE in any sense?

If you had a company that had the right attitude and the right performers, would that be enough, or would it feel bush league like TNA and so never draw anything but 20 people in the sold out Strugglezone?

Best way to compete with WWE is not be sports entertainment, try to be pro wrestling in the vain of 80s NWA, Mid-South, AWA mix with elements of MMA and angles written like popular cable and broadcast dramas IMO

Just be something different & unique. TNA had something decent going on until they tried to copy WWE.

I feel like there's alot of people out there just wanting an alternative....and if it's done properly, with some good financial support, it could eventually compete.

I think that you compete with the WWE in stages.

First, you establish your identity. Not so much "sports entertainment" or "wrestling" but, rather, a model that helps you undertand how to utilize and identify talent.

For example: Southern Style (like the old NWA), Japanese Style (which favors athleticism and hard sports), Extreme (although that's not viable in the 21st century) etc.

You also need a base to work from. WWE is an East Coast corporation. So no matter what happens internationally they can always rock the "Garden" and other East Coast hubs.

A new promotion also needs to be able to run at a profit regardless of their pay per view deal.

Another thing is you gotta try you best in getting the core NWA/WCW audience that completely stopped watching wrestling after it closed down shop. From recent WWE sales, WCW is still remembered fondly by thousands of fans, getting a lot of those fans would help any promotion grow a good rate

What you gotta remember is that all those companies might be gone now, but their legacies will live forever. So if you can get a good 10-15 year run as a contender, you did something for yourself and entertainment as a whole.

I wonder in the current era, does a company need TV and PPV to succeed? What if they could find a means of distribution in line with a new era?

For example, the same way Netflix and Hulu produce their own movies and shows... what if a wrestling promotion had Netflix as one of their sponsors and the new eps debuted on Netflix each week? Then instead of using typical ppv, you would pay to livestream their ppvs off of their website.

That's only cause Vince allows it........if he wants to erase a wrestler, promotion, etc he literally has the power to do so.

I won't say a whole lot, but TNA failed when they brought in fulltime wrestlers that were thrown out by WCW/ECW/WWF.

Give them a contract of 2 months, and that's it. The focus is on your younger talent, and build from that. Also just because you have a TV deal, doesn't mean you cannot have it in bingohalls still. TNA tried to go to 2nd rate places like Casinos or Convention Halls, costing more money.

It's too late. If WCW couldn't do it I don't see who can. It's like basketball...who's gonna compete with the NBA after the ABA folded?

The only thing that could work is if some rich ass dude like Mark Cuban gets into it. And he really wants to compete. Otherwise

The alternative idea could work, but even the IWC can't seem to come to a consensus about what that alternative is. Is it an old-school southern style returning? Probably not. And if so, Jarrett's promotion will probably handle that. I personally think it's a more cinematic approach. Shoot the show on film every week and give the show a gritty reality-based look and make it about the sport; wins and loses.
