I don't think you could necessarily compete, in the sense of matching up with the E (the way WCW made a splash with Turner's money); however, I do think you could be successful as the #2.

Have the right mix of superstars ready, and base yourself in a city that will traditionally pay/attend week in and week out to the tapings (ie: not Orlando where you have to give away free tickets?)

Build your stars organically, see what free agents you could get from the E that are expiring for added semi-star/star power (but at the same time aren't demanding and would be willing to put over newer talent.)

Make sure your audio/video presentation is top notch, and not budget handycam looking (ie: TNA backstage skits.)

More importantly: figure out what sort of style you want to run with and stick with it, as opposed to doing too much at once and turning it into a clusterfukk. If it's not unique, then go simple. I think a show that focused on modern wrestling with an old school vibe, and minimal promos/nonsensical storylines would be okay. Let those build over time, allowing new talent to get comfortable, so their micwork doesn't seem so fake/forced/lame.

You can't compete with WWE right out the gate. What a company would need to do is concentrate on presenting a product with angles/storylines that are unlike what the WWE produces and feature quality wrestling matches while focusing on a territory of the country that supports your product and only run shows from that area while you build brand loyalty and hype amongst the general wrestling public.
Basically follow the ECW model (not their "extreme" wrestling but rather the brand building that Paul E. did) while actually managing your money correctly.

I think a lot of the fanbase want an alternative, but it simply isn't there. If there were a good alternative with some cash backing it, I can see a lot of the WWE roster jumping ship en masse.

That's only cause Vince allows it........if he wants to erase a wrestler, promotion, etc he literally has the power to do so.

I don't know about that :mjpls: We still know Benoit existed.
Just cause the masses buy into revisionist history doesn't mean the truth is not known, "the dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum."

Are you kidding? Do you watch this trash? The WWE right now is just as terrible as TNA and no one says shyt.

The biggest news is some fakkit with no muscles leaving. Bobby roode and bully are ten times better than anyone not Daniel and no one cares.

Are you mad that I called the Strugglezone a bush league promotion? :whoa:

I said this about TNA a while back, but a new company should base operations in Las Vegas, specifically on the Strip. You have a constant stream of new people coming in and out of the city that could attend (and be drunk enough to pay), Casinos continually looking for new ways to draw in people (remodels, comedian/dj residencies, etc.). Plus there's an arena project or two I think that's under development that would compete with MGM Grand Garden. There's an Arena a couple miles off the strip that the minor league hockey team plays in.

Like many of you said, the people want an alternative... we just need someone with deep pockets to get in on it. Someone needs to get Bill Gates to become a wrasslin fan. All the PPV's would be "sponsored by Xbox One" and Bing but I'd watch tho :smugfavre:

The funny thing about WWE and its lack of competition is the simple fact that they think they can coast by. However, doing so lowers their own quality and value, making fans thirst for an alternative means. Fans clamoring an alternative could very well create one, since the demand is there. WWE doing everything half assed because they have no competition is, in a way, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yeah, I think that's just how capitalism in general will always work. It's not perfect but it makes the most sense.

A big financial backer who actually likes wrestling

But who :ohhh:

It's funny seeing Cuban brought up so much... has he even ever showed interest in wrassling :lolbron:?

Hogan and Jimmy Hart wanted him help their promotion back in 03
Dallas Mavericks owner the target of Hogan’s efforts…

In an interesting story, there are rumors that Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart have been shopping the idea of the XWF to new investors with the hopes of getting the startup rolling again.

The primary target thusfar has reportedly been Mark Cuban, the energetic owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.

In addition to possibly running the promotion as a straight wrestling promotion with Hulk Hogan as the initial draw, Hart had a couple other ideas as well. One idea was to run a largely Hispanic crew of wrestlers in a lucha style promotion based out of the Southwest, and another idea was to mimic the Ultimo Dragon's Toureyman Japanese promotion which showcased handsome wrestlers to grab a female audience.

Cuban may have the money but he's a business guy in the end. Seeing how intimate he gets with the Mavs, I wouldn't trust him with staying hands off - unless he gave reigns to someone who knows the business.

If not, would have to be someone loaded that has has a real passion for wrestling.
