ever lived independently in germany? not on base but where you had to independently interface with govt institutions, services, utilities, banks. the law?
can you understand german? ever looked at a german contract? ever looked at a german language car magazine?
there are parts of cologne that look like parts of london but the are not at all similar culturally.
there are parts of austria which look just like bavaria over the border. but austria and germany have different cultures.

i have lived in germany and the USA and I have done all of the above in both.
if anything of german culture has leaked into broader america culture it is the health consciousness (in the west), the appearance consciousness, and the drive to build systems out of everything based on data aka rules bias vs. principles (except possibly in law) and some engineering technical stuff.
in terms of lived daily experience the mentalities are opposite - rule avoidance vs. being hide-bound to being controlled. unit vs. collective.
